I need help please! This is lightning Mcqueen I did in rice krispy treats and covered in fondant. He is bumpy and it just looks horrible to me. Tires are uneven, his symbol is cracking and coming off. Does anyone have an idea how I might be able to fix him or should I just scrap it and start over? any tips on how to make him more realistic?? Running out of time. Birthday party is Friday.Thank you all!!

I cant figure out how to get the pics in this topic so I uploaded them to my gallery. [/img]

You might have to start over, unfortunately. Fondant forms itself to whatever shape it's on. so all the bumps and lumps of RCT will show. You should have covered the RCT in royal icing first, got it smooth and then fondant.

If you really hate how he looks, you may want to scrap it and start over. Did you cover the RKT w/ icing? I try to pack my RKTs pretty tight, then cut a very thin layer off the molded figure before I ice it. It helps w/ the smoothness.let the icing fill in the gaps. freeze it and and then try to cover it. I don't roll my fondant as thin as I do when I cover a cake. I used my circle cutters for my tires. just left the fondant thick instead of rolling it thin. I hope you get it worked out. Good Luck!
I dont know how to add attatchments either. My Mcqueen is cake, but it might give you some ideas.

If you are using rkt, why not use a cookie cutter and cut out 4?

Is your figure a very large size? Is it sitting on top of a cake? Sorry for the questions but I bought both the wilton cake pan for a large figure and a much smaller sand mold from the 99 cents store. Both of which I use RKT to make the figures and then cover with buttercream, allow to sit until really cold in fridge and cover in thick layer of fondant.

it is about the length of a 7 inch cake it is going on top of a sheet cake. I used the cutters for the wheels and then they didnt fit for some reason. I will keep trying :O) thanks for all the advice!! I GREATLY appreciate it!

Maybe put the wheels on the outside of the figure like amberkw did for her cake.
I like her wheels.
When I did a couple lil monster trucks, I used mini choc dougnuts and covered them with fondant...her way looks SOOO much easier (and nicer)!

I personally smash the heck outta my RK before I mix them with the marshmallow, cuts down on the bumpiness, however, you do use a lot more since you dont have all the air inside the krispies taking up space and you still need to ice them some.

Good Luck!

ok.... so last night I packed the krispy treats and put 2 coats of royal icing on and WOW WOW WOW what a difference!!! I also took a larger cookie cutter to cut the wheel out of him and took the one size smaller to actually make the wheel and then covered them in fondant and they fit perfect I am almost finished I will post a pic of the cake when I am done, but thank you all so much for all he helpful advice!!! I dont know what I would do if this site did not exist!
