I think the sugar for hard candies gets too hot and would melt the moulds.

If they are the clear candy/soap molds they will melt due to the sugar for hard candy being so hot.

most soap molds can be used for chocolate but not for hard candy.

most chocolate molds can't be used for hard candy

both can be used for either one or the other but not both (seems like a given, right?) that may be why the notice on the chocolate molds state they're not for hard candy or soap to keep one from switching back and forth between soap and chocolate. All the sites I've been to (not to say I've been to them all), state that the molds are good for chocolate, soap, butters, fondant, molded sugar...not for hard candy (unless, of course, it's a hard candy mold then it doesn't say not for hard candy but it still states it can be used for the other)

What kind of chocolate molds did you find that stated not for hard candy or soap making?

I just reread what I typed.. icon_eek.gif I confused myself even.
Hard candy molds can be used for hard candy, chocolate OR soap
chocolate molds can be used for chocolate OR soap NOT hard candy
soap molds can be used for soap OR chocolateNOT hard candy

http://www.candylandcrafts.com/Catalog/index.htm

first paragraph...

I've ordered many a mold from them(as well as others) and the material for the chocolate molds seems to be the same from place to place. Although, I've not made soap before, I've used them for a multitude of things over the years...from low temp candle making, to POP, and cinnamon Christmas tree ornaments with no ill effect on them(once used for something other than edible food items though, they pretty much are useless for the kitchen uses.)
