A friend of mine is having her stag and doe this weekend and asked me to donate a cake as a prize. Should I do make a poster with some cakes on it, or make the cake for the event? Also, since I'm not taking any money for the cake is this legal? I want to help my friend out, but I don't know if this would be the smartest decision... Anyone else done something like this before? Any advice would be appreciated!

What is a "stag and doe"?

a Stag and Doe is a party thrown in honor of the bride and groom with raffles, prizes and games to raise money for them. Kind of tacky, I know, but it's pretty common where I live.

Where are you from? I've never heard of that icon_smile.gif

As for the raffle: I donated cakes to a cancer benefit once. I just made a few 6" cakes and brought them to the event. I couldn't stay for the whole thing, but the person who organized it said that the people who won them either ate them right there, or had a family gathering they were going to bring them to. My HD said it was legal, since I wasn't making any money off of them.

It seems like I remember being told here on CC that a gift certificate for a cake most likely would never be used, so that's why I opted for just doing a few actual cakes.

Piece_acake by chance do you live in Canada, cause we have stag & doe's here too lol. For your question thu, if you live in Canada you can donate the cake without any legal problems. You are donating the cake, not making money from it. If you are thinking of doing this, then just make the cake and have them raffle it off. If you give them a choice you could end up making a cake that will cost you big $$$. I would say much safer to donate a gender neutral 8" cake, imho.

Stag and Doe... Now thats a GREAT idea to raise money for a bride and groom. No its not illegal, because your donating it... Yes make posters, it will get more people interested in the raffle.

I would go for it, and will remember this for when I get married, I love the idea of the Stag and Doe party.

thatslifeca, yes I do live in Canada! thumbs_up.gif Hamilton, Ontario to be exact.
If I do end up making a poster and having them win a cake of their choice, then I will definitely specify what size and for how many people. Maybe even the flavours or fillings available to them. I am just worried that if I make the cake, it may sit out for too long or be knocked over by the rowdy people that are sure to be there icon_smile.gif

That sounds so fun! Kind of like our dollar dance at the reception. This sounds like you would be able to raise more money though and then your guests have something to show for it too! icon_biggrin.gif
