If I were to get just a few cake pans, supplies, what would you recommend that could be the most versatile and used most often? I have a 10" and 8" rounds, 9x13 rectangle, 8" square, 10" heart shaped and two loaf pans.
Any recommendations? Thanks much!
what type of decorating do you plan on doing more? Buttercream, fondant? do you plan on working with gumpaste or doing flowers?
Each type of decorating has it's own specialty tools.
For me though a few of the things i always use are...
-the icer tip (looks like alarge basket weave tip),
-one 20" bag for the icer tip (fill the bag up a lot less)
-a GOOD turn table (i had one from wilton that i dispised, i gave it away for free, i have an ateco one that i love)
- multiple sized spatulas, off set and straight.
If you wanna get proficient at buttercream, then you'll need a good scraper (a putty knife works well, or a razor scraper, a credit card works in a pinch too) and a roll of Viva paper towels.
I use a bench scraper for BC, I love it!
I'd pick up a bunch of different colors, a couple different square sizes, and I'm going to second leily by saying the icing tip. I think its great!
For pans I recommend a 6 inch square because you can do a 6 inch square as well as make a 12X12 by putting 4 of the 6X6 together. Versatile I also would get a 6 inch round. I like the 6-8-10. Also like the 6-9-12 so I use my 6 inch pans a lot.
Bench scrapers that are flat on the side are fabulous as well.
