I recently did a free cake for an acquaintance and word got back to me that the recipient stated she could have gotten a better looking cake from Walmart icon_surprised.gificon_redface.gificon_cry.gif I am so embarrased and hurt! I don't think my cakes are that bad! Either this person is just plain rude or I need to find a different hobby. Seriously, who complains over a FREE cake? icon_confused.gif It is the farm cake in my pictures.

Don't be embarrased - she should be the one embarrased. That cake is adorable and I don't see anything wrong with it. If she can get a better looking cake at a Walmart, then damn I want to see it. How RUDE! Take a deep breath and move on, she was wrong. All of your cakes are great thumbs_up.gif

I think the cake is really cute. I wouldn't switch hobbies if I were you!

I can tell you this, she wouldn't get this cute of a cake for free at Walmart!! Walmart sells only limited designs.
Custom cake design = $$$$$$.
I know this took many hours to accomplish, which = $$$$$.
NO MORE FREE CAKE FOR HER.

Keep up the great work!! Don't know what would prompt her to make such a comment.
Jealousy maybe, if there were great comments being made by others??!!

oops..the farm cake (was so angry I did not really read the rest of your thread)

by the way - I am sure everyone runs into people like this and yes it does make you feel bad. After awhile you start to walk away and move on to the next project.

Yes, I agree. The next time she needs a cake, tell her to take a trip down to her local Wal-mart and see what sort of cake they are able to do for her! Guaranteed it will NOT be any where near as cute, personalized, detailed or fresh as yours.

Your cakes are super cute. Some people are not happy unless they are complaining/tearing others down. This person sounds like one of those people.

Guys, I think we are being hornswaggled here....

I went to her website which is a blog. She stated in her blog that the farm cake was made for her own son's birthday! Looks like another caker wanting affirmation on her cakes because they aren't getting noticed when uploaded.

I actually have your owl cake in my favorites! Your work is so far superior to anything any Walmart, anywhere could ever produce --your friend must have eaten a few funny-flavored brownies before she commented on that farm cake!

Blow off the comment... no more cakes for her!

The person you made the cake for must really not know a thing about cake! and that's why she made that comment because she's jealous of your talent! Your cakes are all AWESOME! so don't let noone put your skills down, keep your chin up high and move on, next time she ask for a cake tell her to go to walmart, even if she's offering to pay.

BTW, Walmart cakes here in Ohio are nowhere as beautiful as the farm cake you made that lady. icon_smile.gif

Well, poop. Scratch my comment then, and I'm taking the owl out of my favorites!

The dates on her blog of these cakes are all over a year old. Eventhough it says she is a newbie, she has been a registered user on CC for over a year, and her photos on here have too many views to warrant her being brand new to this site.

OP your cakes are good, AND you have lots of views, comments, and favorites on all your photos, why stoop to this, I don't get it?

Amyand3.........you don't need to get a new hobby; you need to get a few new *friends* who know a cute cake when they see one!! Like the others said, no more cakes for her!

Yes, as a 30+ yr decorator I can spot a couple of flaws BUT....... don't we ALL make them now and th en? Only a trained eye would really spot them icon_smile.gif
Could the taste of the cake have been the problem? Are you using quality, fresh ingredients (and I DON'T mean you MUST bake from scratch!) ? Many people today are soooooo used to the taste of a box mix or 'grocery store' cake they might not like anything else.

Keep working hard at perfecting your already good work. And make sure you are baking up quality tasting cakes and you WILL go far in this business icon_smile.gif

I check into this after posting my reply to OP post....and AMYand3, if you wanted to ask how your cake looked to other people, girl come out as "hey what ya'll think about my cakes and my skills" you don't have to make up something to get replies! Why can't we BE REAL! Here is one of my favorite quotes and I hope you take this into your own way of living:

"Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it".--Hardy D. Jackson

With that being said, Take care, keep up the good cake decorating skills and nomore fake stories..... Us Cake Decorators take this stuff seriously... icon_smile.gif

Nope. It's the same exact... you can see it in the details. Hornswaggled is right. Joke was on us. I always get tricked --falling for the sob story. Fool me once, shame on you --fool me twice (and I've been fooled so many times here on CC) SHAME ON ME!

She had a www button link at the bottom of her post. I went there to look at her website it was one of the last cakes in her blog from I believe June or July of 09.
