I am a home-based baker so I do not have a designated area or shop to do cake tastings. With the kids activities and too many distractions, I would prefer not to do cake tastings for weddings at my home. I was thinking about a local coffee shop. Does anyone else do something like this? Do you call the coffee shop and make arrangements or do you just meet your clients there?

Thanks for your help!

Because my shop does not have it's own bathroom (right next to my house), is located in a very remote area and my husband would like to protect his and my children's privacy, I do exactly what you are talking about.

I actually give the client the choice to either meet at their house or one of the local coffee shops. I initially contacted the shop, explained what I was doing and NEVER had a problem with any of them accomodating me. The fact that I buy drinks for all involved I'm sure helps.

I don't live in the "metro" area here, so I give my clients the option to meet me here in my home or at a coffee shop in Columbus. About 3/4 of them choose the coffee shop just for the convenience factor. (I work in that area, so it isn't anything for me to be there for the tastings either) Some are just interested in seeing my home - which is fine. Either way works out. I also bake "extra" and take it with me to the tastings for the employees. They LOVE seeing me come.... icon_biggrin.gif

I just did my first wedding tasting this weekend (it went great!) and we did it at their home.

I don't bake in my home (illegal in California) but I use a commercial kitchen in the downtown area. It's pretty far but I offer the commercial kitchen, their home or a local place (like a coffee shop or we have a nice pavillion area near by).

I have 4 kids and dogs so I wouldn't be able to concentrate, let alone the client!
