I recently moved to Columbus, Ohio and need to find a place to get cake supplies from. It doesn't matter which part of town it's in. I'm willing to drive to get supplies! I know I can order online but I want a local place for last minute supplies.

Happy Hostess near Gahanna

Cake Craft (I think that's the name) on Cleveland Avenue near 161.

Those are both retail stores. If you want wholesale, there are a few of those too, but you have to have proof of your business, and most of their items are sold by the case or in bulk. (that is why I asked what you were looking for!) icon_wink.gif

I'm looking for retail. I'm a Hobby Baker, just bake for family and friends. I was considering trying to branch out but then I got a fantastic job offer and moved to Columbus. I need a set of hex pans (don't want wilton), some punch cutters, place to get gel colors, cookie cutters, fondant etc.

Call Happy Hostess for the Hex pans - Cake Craft only carries the wilton ones. HH sells Fat Daddios too.

HH is more organized than CC is. I can't ever find what I am looking for at CC so if I really need something, I just head to HH instead - even though it is further for me to go.

I agree about the disorganization of Cake Craft! I get a headache shopping in there. I didn't know about Happy Hostess. I'll have to try them out.

I'm so glad I came here. The cake supply store on Cleveland is very distracting to me and being a novice, I have to try to explain what I need. Gahanna is closer (I'm in Bexley) and organization along with someone who is friendly and can offer some good suggestions will be great.

While I think that CC is disorganized, too, once you get the hang of where they keep things, I don't think it is that bad. Dave and his wife always know where everything is, so if I can't find something, they have always been able to point me in the right direction. Also, CC carries Fat Daddios pans, not just Wiltons.

I do like HH, too, but I think that CC has a larger inventory. I go to HH for my hi-ratio shortening, because they sell it in 4 lb bags, but CC only sells the 50 lb containers. Try them both out and see which one you like best.

Actually I prefer Cake Craft for my weekly things. I use their 5 pound bags of 12x powdered sugar. I know it would be cheaper to buy it in bulk, but one batch of my buttercreme takes exactly 5 pounds, so I love not having to ever measure. I just dump in the whole bag and when it's empty, I know my buttercreme is right. icon_smile.gif Dave has offered to sell me ps in the 50 pound bag for dirt cheap, but then I have to a) figure out where to put it, and b) make my own 5 pound bags.
Cake Craft is also cheaper for cardboard rounds and boxes than HH. I do really like Lady at HH hostess though. She's so sweet! I always check there for any specialty items before I buy them online. Usually I end up buying most of those things online though.
And I second the question - hey Loucinda, where are there wholesale places here in Columbus? Other than Sam's/Costco, that is? I'm trying desperately to find a supplier for Land o' Lakes butter for less than the $4-something ridiculous it is a pound at the grocery store. I go through a TON of butter a week. I'm finding Sam's butter not too bad, but it's still not as good as Land o Lakes...

Check out Smidge and Pinch in Powell. They have a huge selection of cookie cutters, baking cups, toppers, sprinkles, etc. Also, they have some party supplies, paper straws, bakers twine.
The address is 343 W. Olentangy Road (next to Old Bag of Nails). #614-766-5300. It is worth the drive to check it out

I like them both! If you can't find what you need at Cake Craft then just ask Dave! There are some items, like petal dust, that they keep behind the counter.

The Cake Craft Company on Cleveland Avenue, just South of 161, across from Meijer.  They are a warehouse full of everything you need!  Shirley and Dave are the owners and are always helpful.  Tell them Connie from The Cupcake Fix sent ya!

Thanks for all the suggestions!  Cake Craft Co is close so I've been there a few times.  I agree about the disorganization.  It was overwhelming the first few times.  I've found that if I know what I need I just ask and they point me in the right direction but it isn't good (for me at least) for browsing.  I've been to Happy Hostess House a few times when I've been on that side of town.  I'll have to look for the place in Powell, I drive by there a few times a week!

I had a chance to check this shop out last weekend. I bought Americolor, great selection. I needed chocolate rocks for a cake and was impressed they have four different kinds to choose from and they had them in smaller bags, so I didn't have to buy 10 pounds of them. I also picked up some cake boxes and these silver beads (dragees ?). Great shop. Everything is new and fresh
