Hi!
I do not have a cake decorating business but my friends love my cakes so one of them asked me to make cupcakes for a bridal shower she is hosting and another one to make a teddy bear cake (using the wilton 3D pan- she knows I have it) for a baby shower she is hosting. How do I price them out? I saw that there is a matrix for cakes but how do I price out cupcakes? My friend wants either cupcakes with BC "grass" and a flower cookie on a stick sticking out of the cupcake or a flower cupcake.
Also, How do create the pricing for the Teddy Bear cake?

Thanks so much for your help. I am not sure if I made a lot of sense so I hope you can understand what I wrote.

Can you sell cakes where you're located? Once you accept $ you DO have a cake business.

That said, if you can legally sell, then you've got to compute your costs: ingredients, gas/electric + your time.

There's no way we can know what your ingredients cost you. For example, I buy flour and cocoa in 50# bags, so I may get a better price per ounce than you can. I have no idea what power costs per KWH in your area.

Basically, only you can determine your pricing.

Thank you!
I am not even sure if I can sell or not, i guess I have to check that out. I have done plenty of cakes for friends before but I always give them away as gifts because its usually for my relatives or for their birthdays. I guess if I can't I will have them pay for the ingredients and do it as a favor then. I just don't want to eat up the cost since its not for them. Thank you! =)

I only bake for friends and family. I usually add what it costs for ingredients and then decide what I want for my time. I honestly don't make much but it's more of a hobby for me. My base price is 45.00. It usually costs me 20.00 to 25.00 for supplies to make a cake. The rest is to cover my gas for running around, electricity and gas for my oven. I enjoy making cakes but I refuse to come out of pocket for the additional costs it takes to make a cake.
