I may sound crazy but I absolutely love the sugar cookies they sell by the bakery at the grocery store. They are thick and so soft (I scape off the icing though). I have never been able dublicate this, nor have I tasted anyone else's that is as good.

Does anyone know which one's I am talking about?
and would anyone have a recipe that I could try?

TIA

My dd has the same obsession, and has been trying to duplicate them. I think her last try was pretty good, but she is out of town till August. PM me if you don't get a response and I will ask her when she gets back

Are you talking about Lofthouse Cookies? Those are plain vanilla or lemon cookies, covered with a butter/powdered sugar icing and sprinkles. The stores usually change the colors of the icing and sprinkles according to season or holiday.

Yes they change the colors for each season and top with sprinkles.

deMuralist: Thank you, if nothing comes up I will definitely send you a message.

tonyas_jewels: We can only hope, lol. ****fingers crossed****

I love those cookies, too! I had a friend in High School who scraped the frosting off as well. He liked just the cookie. And then another friend ate his frosting because she liked just the frosting. lol I always thought that was so bizarre. The ones I love are the Granny B's Pink Frosted Sugar Cookies. I have tried Lofthouse, but just do not like them as well as Granny B's. I found a recipe that gets good reviews (the picture is nothing to look at) that I haven't tried yet. Here's a link.

If you google Lofthouse Cookies, you'll get pages of recipes. This is my version.
Lofthouse Cookies
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream or yogurt
2 large eggs
4 cups flour
1 tsp. almond and/or vanilla or lemon extract
Directions
Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg, extract, sour cream and flour.
Scoop or spoon onto cookie sheet. Small scoop makes about 55 cookies.
Place 2-inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets. Be sure to flatten each with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake at 375° for 10- 12 minutes, or until cookies are done.

Frosting
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup softened butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons milk or half-and-half cream
1/2 tsp of extract of your choice
5 drops food coloring, if desired
Directions:
Beat all ingredients until well combined. Add more cream, or powdered sugar, as needed. Ice the cookies when completely cool. Decorate with the sprinkles.
Yield: About 1 1/2 cups of frosting, enough for the whole batch of cookies.

LMBO, you know I have never even thought about googling the name on the container. (I blame it on the kids, I think they stole my brain)

Thanks for your version, I hope I can experiment tomorrow.

Yes, brainpower is diminished following pregnancy. I heard it returns just in time for menopause, when you'll lose it again.

I posted an icing recipe above. It makes exactly enough to frost the whole batch.

Does anyone have the recipe for a sugar cookie that has sour cream and nutmeg in it. It is a soft cookie, but not cakelike. They had them at a cookie shop in the mall a few years back and have never been able to find them. It was called Annabelle's, but I don't know that it was a chain. They had buttercream frosting on them w/vanilla (real butter). Kind of doughy in the middle and were pretty good sized.
