I am looking to buy wire to make little stars and such coming out of the tops of my cakes... but I've read a lot about how some wires aren't "food safe" and have too much metal or something in them?? I'm wanting to know WHAT IS SAFE to use and won't harm the cakes, but sturdy enough to hold things up?!

I use floral wire and instert the ends into hollow plastic lollipop sticks, coffee stirs or for a large cluster of wires, a drinking straw or posy pic, before inserting them in the cake. Some people dip the wire in chocolate instead. I've tried that but wasn't impressed with the coverage I got.

Same here, I used coffee stirs, the skinny red ones. I tried the chocolate but some broke off as I was inserting it or moved they. I wouldn't trust that the chocolate wouldn't just break off in the cake leaving the wire exposed.
