Why don't people ever think about others feelings???
I had a guy hit my car years and years ago. I know the family VERY well and know that they are the type of family that does absolutely anything for others. They take in foster children with dissabilities and all. I told them I wasn't interested in getting it fixed (even though it was my new convertible) because sometimes people need a break. I looked at that dent/scratch everyday and it reminded me that sometimes it's OK to do something nice for someone else.
I will step down now!
While it is unfortunate (and I am sorry this happened to the OP), lets not make this about the customer. This is not about feelings it is about fulfilling a service that the OP was contracted to complete.
Using your car analogy, you would have been fine if you had paid for your new convertible and when you showed up to pick it up the dealer said well your convertible was seriously damaged in an accident, but hey take this station wagon--its just a car right?
Simply because folks expect to have their cake ready on time as ordered does not make them the bad guy, nor any less of a person because they did not cut the OP a break. Folks have plans with family and friends, they may be time sensitive, no one knows, but it is not bad karma because they are insisting that everything be ready on time as ordered.
