Hello all!

SO here's whats going on. My friend has her annual company bake-off in just a couple of weeks and we are STUCK on trying to figure out what to make this year.

The judges: kids ages 9-11. Two years ago she made her famous chocolate pizza, and the year after she made "dirt" cupcakes.

We want to stick to things that are chocolate (choco is always a winner with kids!), but we are struggling to think of anything as creative as the past years. icon_sad.gif

So please help us out and throw a couple ideas our way! We want to win!

Thanks a bunch!

I made peanut brittle for the county fair and won best of show. It is super simple, is made in the microwave and is really tasty. You can dip half of each piece in chocolate and it is heavenly. If you want the recipe just PM me. Kids just love it.

Has any one done kitty litter cake? You'll have to search for a recipe, but it uses a crumbled cake mix, crushed duplex cookies, pudding, (I think) and tootsie rolls that have been microwaved and molded to look like. . . icon_biggrin.gif

Could you make something that looked like burgers and fries but was actually sweets?

Kids love individual things and things that are the wrong size - ie mini- muffins, tiny cupcakes, big cupcakes and anything that comes with its own spoon or fork.

Depending on how many of these you have to make to win:

Mini-cupcake mini bouquets - kids don't care if the flowers are perfect of if they are packed in styrofoam pots

Regular sized or mini "Tall" cupcakes. Once they are rolled, they could be wrapped in cellophane w/ a fork.

Some sort of Martian or Moon cake - vanilla cake with jello poured over and go from there.

Any sort of potty humor - poop cake. The parents won't love you, but you'll win.

Add candy like it is going out of style. Bake mini candy bars in them and tell the kids that it is there.

how about making cakes that look like bite sized candy bars in their wrapers.

or a whole bunch of cake balls that are dipped in chocolate melts and painted to look like M&M's then put them in a big bowl.. ??

both of these ideas are on my "to do" list. icon_biggrin.gif

I 'ditto' this suggestion. Check out Bakerella's blog for these. I did them last year for July 4th. They weren't hard - the paper trays and fry holders actually took more time than I thought....but they were a BIG hit. I think kids will really love them.

Here's the link to her blog and this particular item...

for bake sales at my kids school, I always make homemade caramel corn. the trick is to pour over the caramel over the popcorn that is put into a large roasting pan and bake on low to get the crunch.. When it has cooled to the touch, brake up into chunks and drizzle with chocolate and M&m's or any favorite chocolate candy. pm me if you want the recipe.. therese
