How Do I Get This Color And Design On A Cake?

The silver on this cake looks to be painted directly on the surface. The cake looks free hand but the cupcake tops look to be stenciled. I know that fondant is generally reccomended for outdoor weddings. If you use indydebi's buttercream you should be fine.
thanks, so what is the ratio of alcohol to luster dust or whatever I need to use to paint that?
It is difficult to explain as I usually just add the alcohol a few drops at a time until I reach the consistancy of paint. An eyedropper comes in really handy for this. Now that I have purchased the airbrush silver and pearl colors, I usually use those to paint with instead. It seems easier. Sometimes I put a little silver in a small container and add a bit of pearl to enhance the "shine" of the silver. Sorry I can't be more specific on the ratio. I find I often have a scrap piece of fondant in the color I am going to paint on handy, so I can do a few test strokes until I have it to the color and consistancy needed to get the best look.
I just stenciled on a fondant wedding cake and used the airbrush coloring directly from the container. It worked great!
The cupcakes look like they rolled the fondant with a textured matt or roller. Then they paint them with silver mixed with alcohol. Very carefuly of course. The cake I agree is handy. I usually make the desing in a paper and gently with a pencil mark it over the fondant. Also you can look the 3D stamps (impressions) they have a lot of designs similar that the picture.
This cake was made by a friend of mine here in Melbourne, Cupcaketastic (on Flickr). The top cake is painted freehand, and the cupcakes were embossed and then overpainted.
Probably be a nice thing to ask her permission to copy her design - copying ad hoc is pretty badly looked upon in Aus - the internet makes nothing "anonymous".
Silver scrolls and little red flowers on white are not a new design.
I see little need to ask someone's permission to make a similar cake, or even one including cupcakes, with silver scrolls and red flowers on white; just because one saw a picture and asked if it was piped or painted.
Oh so sorry Pinkest, the lady gave me this pic for an example for what she is looking for. She likes the silver but she wants all white so if I do anything like this (i am an amateur so it won't be nearly as nice) then it will be silver vines with white flowers and the cupcakes will have the swirl of BC with white flower and silver sprinkles or something like that. Thanks so much for all your help...by the way...will fondant hold up in the heat? and the BC swirls on the cupcakes? It is outside.
