I am so upset!!! I had left my cakes out to cool off for the day since I work, and placed wax paper on top with a dish towel...well, the cakes dried up! I could not make more cakes as the cake was needed for this morning and I did not catch it until late last night. So I stacked the fresh ones on top of the others...is there any chance that they might moisten with the frosting? I have been crying because it is for my husband's new bridgde commander...what a way to start off. Ugh! This has never happened to me before, never! I am mortified! Should I offer them their money back? I had to deliver it, but don't know how they bottom layers are going to taste.

I'm a little confused....What do you mean...they "dried up"? What makes you think they are dry?

When I have a cake that is a little dry, I make some simple syrup, and before filling and frosting, brush it over the cake and then use a tooth pick to poke little holes in the cake so the syrup soaks in. You can flavor the syrup or leave it plain. Makes the cake very moist.

Did you mean to leave the cakes out all day?

I second the simple syrup in case this happens again. Even if your cakes aren't dry you can use simple syrup icon_smile.gif

In this case the cake will take in some fo the moisture from the icing. Will your husband or anyone you know be tasting this cake? If so just ask them out it tasted. I wouldn't start giving money back because you think it might taste bad

Thanks for the input. I did leave them out because I was cooling them and had to room in the fridge. My husband just informed me that the cakes were fine. Thankfully I layered the middle with lots of frosting, so it helped to moisten the bottom cakes that dried out. He said only one small roll was left of a two 12x18 sheet cake and people liked it. Thank God!

Well, it was four cakes total, but stacked. I will definitely remember the syrup idea. I don't know why I forgot about using that. Thank you so much for responding. I just can't believe it happened.
