I am looking for a new bc recipe. I have been using a bc recipe that is part butter, part shortening (I use crisco). I don't like that it has a yellowish appearance and I can taste the shortening. But I also need a buttercream that I can work with and hold up in decorations.

Also, what is the best type of butter and shortening to use?

I use Indydebi's buttercream recipe. It's an all shortening buttercream but only uses 1 1/3 cups of crisco to 2 pounds of powdered sugar. If you use clear vanilla it's a white/white icing.

I beat (pulverize) the crisco for 15 minutes before adding any other ingredients. I also beat it for at least 15 or 20 minutes after all of the powdered sugar has been added. I love this recipe. It tastes great, holds up great to heat and humidity, and it's easy to make and use and it crusts beautifully.

You can find the recipe in the "most saved" recipes on this site.
