does anyone have any good suggestions on making Save The date cookies for a child's party?
My son has a summer birthday and I want to send Save The Date cards. But I noticed cookies were popular with weddings and thought maybe I could do this for a birthday.

I am a novice decorater so it would have to be something simple.

Get a simple square or rectangular cookie cutter. Then get a smaller sun shaped or just zig-zag bordered round cutter. Make the background of the square cookie just white, or light blue and let dry. Get edible markers and write the save the date info - but first, decorate the smaller cookie yellow with sunglasses eyes and a smile to be a sun. Stick on the square with royal icing. HOW cute would that be??? : )

Whatever the theme will be for the party...let it be a teaser for it...

Like, if it were going to be a Cars theme, maybe the STD (ugh) cookies could be checkered flags or tires...

I made christmas card cookies at christmastime this past year. They went over really well. Mine were big though, the size of a greeting card.

I was able to get DVD gift boxes (3 for $1) at the dollar tree and they fit perfectly inside. I wrapped each one in plastic wrap pulled tight and taped in the back.

WOW, Tina...these are awesome. What a great greeting card. I did ones out of chocolate once using a mold & people loved them. There is something to be said for homemade gifts....especially when you know how much work goes into something.

thanks, I was all set to actually write a "greeting" on them but went paint crazy and when I got done painting there was no room. I figured it was a bust so I didn't bother. I made just 1 card to display at a craft fair and wound up with 15 orders (I charged $5.00 per cookie) needless to say I was very excited. I had 4 designs sketched out on paper including the one above and every single person chose the one above. One lady bought the "floor model" cookie for $20........I told her it wasn't for sale, it was just to show people what they looked like.....she said I'll give you 20 bucks and place an order for 5 more if you let me take it.......I told her TAKE IT! Everyone else can look at the pictures! lol There was only an hr. left of the craft show anyhow! lol

Tina, you are too funny! I would have done the same thing if there was only one hour left of the fair...wait, I would have done it for the $20.00 regardless of the time! You are just so creative & talented....I love seeing your work! Keep it up & also keep up the humor!!!

kind of not getting the "save the date" cookie thing for any event, isn't someone going to eat the cookie & then they'll potentially forget the event? LOL but it's true

I made cookie CD invitations last year for my daughter's idol party. All the info was printed out and taped to the back of the CD envelope as well as piped on the CD. Good thing too, because only two of the cookies made it home from school
