What is the cost of the Agbay Cake leveler and who has the best price. Looks like a wonderful tool. I do alot cakes, this would help me alot. My cakes are always very level, but anything to make it easier is always a plus. Thanks in Advance. Happy Cake Decorating.

Does anyone know if you buy new blades for the Wilton cake leveler....Mine are getting very dull. Or do you sharpen it?

there is a thread on here that offered a great idea. the poster said that she went to her local hardware store and bought a saw blade to fit the wilton cake leveler handle and it worked like a charm

Love my agbay, the new version lets you torte right down to the bottom of the cake.

What's the benefit of the double blade as opposed to the single?
The new upgradeable version ($175) does come with the blade, right?

you can make 2 cuts with one swipe of the blade. I didn't get the double one, you can add it later.

I thought so. I don't really think that I would use a double anyway. I usually only make a two layered tier. You can just move the blade down. I'm assuming.
thx!

With two blades you can level the top and torte all at once.

My hubby got me one for my birthday in April and I absolutely love it! I got the single blade but it still saves me so much time and my cakes are perfectly level.

I'd never heard of the Agbay leveller before this thread, but when I watched it in action on You Tube (

), I almost passed out, it was so beautiful. If only I was more than a hobby baker and could justify it!

Thanks. I didn't think of that. I don't think that I could justify the extra cost, and may go with the single blade.

The good news is that with their new design, you can buy the single blade now and then add in the second blade later (at least from the way i understand it) the price difference doing it this way is only $5 or $10 so you can save up for the 2nd blade and get it later.

The Agbay is awesome, and you'll use it on EVERY cake you make, which totally makes it worth the cost.

I was doing some research on cake levellers and found this thread. I thought it was worth revisiting since I have a few questions about the agbay, please. Image

First off, from the website, there are only 2 agbay machines, right? A single and a double blade?

For those that have the double blade, is it just the convenience of being able to level AND torte one cake at the same time as opposed to just making an adjustment on the single blade machine? Since I don't do many cakes, I'm wondering how to justify the monetary difference between the two machines.

Also, and this is an important question for me and my limited kitchen space, does it store easily, out of sight? Does it compress somehow at all to not take up so much space?

No, sadly this magnificent tool is NOT in my budget, BUT that just means
I may need to revise my budget is indeed it's truly worth it...

I have the double and I got it for two reasons: First, I have both 2 inch and 3 inch pans. If I use a 3 inch pan and want to torte it, I use the double blades. I find the double blade to be more versatile. As for space, keep the original packing box. It's larger but the Agbay does not compress. Frankly I will say it is hands down one of the best investments I've ever made in the cake world. thumbs_up.gif

I have the single blade because I'm a hobbiest and just didn't really need the extra blade. For the small volume of cakes that I do, it's no biggy to adjust to torte the layers when I want. What I do is level both cakes to just under 2 inches, then change the setting to about 1 inch and torte both with the same setting.

I have a "cake cabinet" and I store mine there. Someone posted they put C hooks under their counter and they hang their Agbay under the counter. I thought that was pretty smart. It's pretty wide so you do have to think about where you will put it but even if it sat on my counter day in and day out it is the single best cake investment I have made.

How does one sharpen the saws? Do you have to replace them? Is the handle sturdier than the Wilton (my Wilton one is a joke)? Looks like I will be buying myself a 'got-the-cake-order' celebratory prize! hehehe
