Buttercream Frosting That Is Not Too Sweet

I have a request for my first cake (other than for my family guinea pigs!) and they are requesting that the frosting be "not too sweet". I am sure you have had this request....what buttercream frosting do you use in this instance?
Here is a link to the recipe that I use. I don't like the frosting to be too sweet either. I like this one. Hope it will work for you. http://www.thatreallyfrostsme.com/2010/04/my-favorite-frostingicing.html
Indydebi's icing isn't too sweet and everybody loves it.I really like the recipe for "extra special buttercream" It has great flavor and not too sweet.
I've never tried indydebi's icing because I can't find all the ingredients at my store...small town.
Krista....is that the "Indydebi's Crisco-Based Buttercream Icing"? If not, can you lead me to the recipe you are talking about? Thanks.
If you don't need it to crust, use SMBC!!!! People who are requesting not-to-sweet icing always love this!!!!
When I need a crusting American buttercream, I alway use the Doctored Buttercream Dream recipe on this site - it incorporates IndyDebi's Dream Whip ingredient. It's smooth and creamy and not sickly sweet. Recently, at a party, there were a group of adults surrounding the cake and I stuck my head in to see what was going on..... They all had their forks and were scraping the icing off the board and eating it. A strange compliment, but a compliment nonetheless.
Yes it is, everybody gives it great reviews. I like the extra special buttercream only because it has half butter and half shortening.
You can do half butter half shortening in Indydebi's recipe as well, and I don't think it's too sweet either. Here is a link to the recipe:
