Baking a cake in a pie plate??

My daughter has asked for a Baking themed birthday party. She wants me to make her a cake that looks like a pie. I've seen cupcake sized versions, where M&M's were used as the 'fruit'...

My question is, can I bake the cake in the pie plate? Would it turn out weird?

If it can be done, does anyone know how many cups of cake batter to put in the pie plate??

Thanks in advance!!

I baked a cake to look like a pie for a pie social - it was right after I started doing cakes and I didn't want to make a pie! icon_biggrin.gif lol

I used my Pampered Chef deep dish pie plate and filled it 2/3 ish full like I do my cake pans. I did chocolate covered cherry cake, after it was cooked I flipped it out to cool and torted and filled it. After that I put it back in the pan and put more cherry filling on top. Then laid beige colored fondant on top. hand painted it and sprinkled with sugar to look real....

I made a Lemon Meringue pie cake. I used an 8" cake pan and carved it. I then covered it with choc. fondant and fluted the edges. Covered the top in BC rosettes and fondant lemon slices.

I dont see why you wouldnt be able to do it. I think marthajo1's cake looked awesome. How much batter really depends on the size of your pan and its depth. I would just do 2/3 full and bake. You can always trim it up some or make it higher with the pie filling.

Marthajo1!! That looks Amazing!!! So amazing that I think I might suggest it to my daughter! Though, she's turning 9, and I think she has her heart set on the candy LOL... But I do plan on keeping it in mind for the future! Thanks!!!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I figured it would be okay, but wanted to confirm with the experts icon_smile.gif
