Is it possible to get a bad batch of fondant? When I say bad, I mean that the fondant seemed plyable and easy to work with, but I attempted to cover a 12" round cake three times because the fondant kept cracking and tearing! I was pulling my hair out! This was a brand new 10 pound tub of satin ice. Finally, I got my other supply of fondant and had no problems applying. This was still satin ice, just a few months old. I was wondering if I should contact my supplier, but thought I would ask to see if this has happened to anyone before? I see that fonderific looks amazing on cakes, I have never used it. Can someone tell me what that best fondant is, problem-free fondant?

I don't know where you're located, but I recently heard that someone had gotten some SI that had been improperly stored by the distributor before shipping (it froze).

Satin Fine Foods is a great company with very good customer service. I'd call or e-mail them and see if they can help--and I'd bet they will. Have the bucket handy because they'll want lot info, etc. from it.

I think fondant is one of those things that is personal preference, and there isn't any correct answer. Currently, I like fondarific, but I haven't tried fondx and a lot of people like it. Good Luck!

I had the same problem recently with 2 20lb buckets of Satin Ice. I've never had a problem with it before, usually it's great to work with

I like Fondarific. For me, Satin Ice dries too quickly but Fondarific remains pliable and seems to not tear as easily. I'm relatively new to the fondant game but I've tried Fondarific, Satin Ice, Wilton, Chocopan, and Fondx and I prefer the Fondarific.

I had trouble with Satin Ice recently too. I like FondX for covering cakes...but I still like Satin Ice for dried decorations, if not gumpaste.
