I almost hung up when I heard it was a relay call, after hearing so many stories on here... But I decided I didn't want to hang up on a REAL hearing-impared person, so I went with it. The person asked if I do wedding cake, I answer yes. They want a cake for 250 people for their daughter's wedding in a WEEK, and ask the price. I give them a ballpark figure based on my per serving price and ask what flavor and shape. They say "white Chocolate" which I don't offer at this time, and I tell them so. They go on to say they want a "pillared" shaped cake. Now I'm pretty sure it's a scam and want to get off the phone. I ask where the venue is for delivery, they say they want to pick up. I say fine, but I need payment in CASH immediately for such short notice. They ask if I take credit cards, to which I say no, but I take PayPal.
Disconnect.
Heh.
I work in a custom furniture store & we get these calls all the time. We have learned that if we tell them the payment terms (no CC, etc) first before we get to anything else it shortens the phone call tremendously thus lengthening our lives.
I'll have to remember that for next time! I was a little out of it at first, they actually woke me up...
