The new CakeCentral Magazine

I placed my order for this magazine and have received the first copy and found it to be not what I thought. It had lots of professionally done cakes in it and no recipes. I thought I was subscribing to a magazine that had photos of cakes in it like the ones shown on this website-by people like myself who are not professionals by any means but who are learning as we go .But I thought that maybe this was just like a premier magazine, so I waited for the next one to come out only to find out that this one was the same, so I now feel like I have spent $60.00 for a book full of stuff I can't really use. Was sorely disappointed icon_sad.gif and feel like I was mislead on what this book would have inside. Was hoping it would be full of ideas and recipes and instead it only has photos and no explanations of how the cakes were even designed or made. Does anyone else feel like this? icon_confused.gif

Not at all! I absolutely love the magazine.

It was never promoted as a step by step instuctional magazine. It has a lot of resourceful information in it. I guess it depends on what your looking for. Compared to other cake magazines, CC's rocks!

it is taking forever to get it or not getting it at all, that saddens me. i subscribed before the last date of subscribing. it took forever to get my first one and i still to this day, havent, gotten my second one. it is sad , that the ones that did not subscribe at all, have gotten theirs before me. i really don,t understand. it was a little disappointing to see cakes in the magazine , that you see right on this site. i was shocked at that. but, did like some of the material. im just waiting for the second one, i read on here how good it is. wish i knew for myself. i have friends rights around me that already has the second one. maybe it will come soon. sorry you are disappointed also in what you thought i would be.

CC Magazine is the "vogue" magazine for the cake industry.

The April.May issue is wonderful. I get inspiration and new ideas just going through the catalog. I shared this magazine with friends in catering and wedding/event planning industry. They plan to subscribe this magazine for inspiration and ideas.

I'm a little bummed too..was hoping for more recipes and would've liked to see instructions/tutorials, etc. included with the cake pics. I know there's tons of info here on CC too, but I guess my expectations were different.

I suppose if it helps some people then its a good thing- I just wish there were more recipes and more directions in how those cakes were made. I realize that fondant cakes are whats "in" but most all of my customers still want the butter cream frosted cakes. Could more of those cakes be added to this magazine?

I love the magazine. I order mine from IcingImages and always receive it very quickly after placing my order. I have both issues and will order the June issue soon.

I love the pictures. I'd much rather look at photo's of beautifully, professionally made cakes . I would have been disappointed if the magazine had been filled with photo's of cakes made by people that were "learning" how to decorate. If I want to see photo's like that I can visit the web and see hundreds of them.

I'm not saying that I don't try new receipes but I have my receipes that I use and I'm really not looking to change anything so the lack of receipes don't bother me either. I'm one of those people that look at a magazine for the photo's. icon_lol.gif I guess that's why I'm not disappointed in any way.

okay okay, calm down... I had HUGE issues at first with this magazine, but now that im getting mine on time im very impressed. I too thought the photos were AMAZING! I would love to hear the step by steps of how some of the professionals make some of the stuff, but then I think to myself would i tell someone in my career field how to do something I know how to do... probably not. So why would they. Also, these are professionals, but I believe I saw one person in the magazine who started her cakes inside her home. Or she still does them out of home, one of the two. I personally would love to hear about how they do the cakes, but Im enjoying every second I get to look at these cake photos!....

Also, just a thought, maybe you can send a comment to them via their website. It might help them understand what you want. Maybe they will hear you and put in one magazine here and there, a un-familiar face! Who knows, maybe they didn't think of that yet! Just an idea!

I agree with the fact that is the Vogue of the Cake world. I do agree that they never said it was going to be a recipe book. It's a cake Magazine. More than anything I think people need to give the Magazine a chance to grow.

Jackie and Heat do listen to what CC people want for the Magazine and it's in growing stages. I think it's beautiful.
In all the cake Magazines I ever seen the recipes are not what cakes Magazines are about, it's more about the cakes.

The photos that they are putting in the Magazine are of Cakes that has never been published.
As far as how fast the Magazine gets out I am thinking that publishing date is the month that says on the
Magazine, mailing date is another. I am not sure on this, but I just try to wait and be patient.

I think it's a bit hard to say that it aint right, when in fact it's one of the best Magazines I have seen in the Cake World.

I will say, let it grow and like with wine it will only get better..It already it's beautiful.
In my case, I don't want a Magazine full of recipes. I want a Magazine full of cakes ideas and tutorials. So I guess
everybody is looking for something different..

Edna, I agree with you. I am not looking for a lot of recipes. I am looking for new ideas and techniques. I love the pictures of the cakes in this magazine. Yours are amazing, by the way. Most I can figure out how to make and the photos in the magazine are inspiring.
I did have trouble getting my 2nd issue. Heath mailed another one to me, postmarked May 3rd and I received it May 10 (media mail) If someone hasn't received theirs yet, they should contact Heath or Jackie.

I have a tutorial on the next issue on one of my cakes that people asked me over and over again how it was done. And I have a few more coming up in other issues on cakes that people ask me constantly how it's done.

In my case. I am really good at answering questions. So if someone sees a cake that they don't understand I try my best to explain.

The only thing is, sometimes explaining things in writing is tough. Some things do get lost in writing..
I like visuals.

I feel the same way. I was more diappointed than not. If thart makes sense. I thought it would be a how to magazine. That is what I want. It reminds me of the wedding cakes magazine. I quit buying it because it is mostly just cakes that are way above my level. I am wanting to learn something new in the form of tutorials.

I was not disappointed in the magazine as much I as am with the fact that I have only rec'd the first issue. I contacted Cake Central three times about my second issue. I heard something back the first time, but nothing after that.

While I could not even image what goes into publishing a magazine and I know that there are some kinks to work out. But. I paid 60.00 that if I'm not going to get the magazine, I would love to get to get a refund on the difference. Heck I could have spent that same money on some cake decorating supplies. icon_cry.gif

Cybil6 I agree with you. I wish it had less professional cake photos and more articles. I am hoping since it is new it will get better with time icon_smile.gif

I too am disappointed. While the cakes are beautiful, I can come on here or search the Internet for free to see them. I was hoping for more how to's and recipes, etc. It seems expensive for a bunch of pics mostly done by the same people in the same style.
