I'll admit, I haven't read all of these responses... But if I was Duff, I'd probably 'sell out', too. Hell, I definitely would! If someone came up to me and said, "if we put your name on a whole bunch of cake decorating stuff and you sit back and pocket the coin... would you??". Are you kidding?? Is that even a question??? Who cares what it tastes like... Most decorating 'stuff' I buy IS useless crap. Most mixes DO taste like... well, won't go there, haha. And honestly, if you were him and you DIDN'T take this opportunity to market these products while you've got your 15minutes, you'd be a moron. Good on him! His cakes aren't the best I've seen, but him and his staff are characters and entertaining to watch. I'm nothing but envious.... And so are all of you. Admit it! Haha.

I can see his fans buying it for sure... but I for one.... look for bargains... always....

I love simply love Rachael Ray... I like her show ( 30 minute meals... not her morning show lol ) but the other day I needed to buy some chicken broth and went to the supermarket... saw that she actually has her own chicken broth (well someone paid her to use her name on their product anyways) but when I saw the price.... I put it right back on the shelf... I don't care how much I like watching you on TV... if I see that you are trying to rob me by jacking up a product so high cause ur face is on it.... I'm just not going to fall for that one... not Emeril, not Rachael and certainly not Duff.... I used to like his show... but it's gotten kinda Duff_less.... it's like now it's his crew making cakes... he is always doing "something" else.... so his crew is very very talented for sure....

Now to those that think that they can buy Duff stuff and make a piece of art..... well I hope that they have a crew on 8 or 9 talented cakers that happend to also be trained artists..... cause you can buy all the DUff stuff u want and when you are there in your kitchen with PS all over... a 3 layer cake and some BC with a bucket of fondant.... looking at all that thinking.... what/how/when/where? then they will see why we charge wht we charge and that is not as easy as everyone seems to think it is.... so this might be a good thing lol....

Duff will make his money regardless of what people here do. Don't be surprised if Cake Boss does not come out with their own stuff eventually.

As for buying it, I can guarantee that it will be done by fans and not real cake decorators since economically it would not make sense.

As for Michaels well their Wilton isle was really drab in my location. I have not purchased anything in there for a while. The candy melts were reduced in weight and the price remained the same so when I needed to buy that I would print the coupon from Hobby Lobby and go get a 1lb. for the same price.
When you charge that much you will get usually only one time buyers. So he might have to reconsider his price points however, it might be more out of his hands then we think. There would be so many middle men etc.
As for the coupons, Michaels limits what you can buy and have removed a lot of product from being discounted like Martha, books etc...so once they get people hooked Duff Stuff might go the same route.
As for cost in Canada well if you want the reasons just PM me. I don't want to start a political discussion here.
As for buying cake supplies at a craft store most of us would only do it in a pinch or because of the coupon. The selections are extremely limited and Wilton only owns the home baker market not the entire thing.
There are a great many more companies out there that have wonderful products that don't cater to the home/small/hobby market.

OOoppps one more thing, for the ladies in Canada go to Bulk Barn. They have a lot of cake decorating supplies in bulk including Belgian chocolate wafers.
Also, they sell a fondant that tastes better then Wilton and the price is not that bad.

I just saw the Duff cake pans and I plan on getting all of them. They are a dull shiny heavy weight straight sided pan. They felt balanced in hand when you picked them up. I think they are better than the Wilton pans I already have. I only have 2 sets of 8" and 9". But they stack inside each other. I just learned here that this does not give you a straight side for a layer cake. This explains a lot of why I have some of the problems I have frosting a cake.

I am going to buy them with my 40% off coupons. They cost about 15 dollars apiece. I think this is about near the same price as Wilton pans, give or take a dollar or two.

But I still won't be buying a cake mix for 8 bucks. Someone missed the mark on that price point.

I have bought three 2-lb containers of the Duff fondant at Michaels, each one costing $11.99 after my 40% off coupon. I know it is either Satin Ice or Fondarific, so I'm happy with that. I only want fondant for decorations, not covering cakes, so I think it's wonderful! I had put off buying fondant from the internet due to shipping charges. This way is wonderful! And I have two more 40% off coupons for next week @ Michaels', and I intend to get more fondant with them.

Iggyosobo- it's a great way to do it! I'd never spend the 20 bucks unless I was desperate, but this is a great way to get it! I wish our Michael's had more colors: they only have white, pink, red, and chocolate.

Just a note, the "Duff" fondant is Fondarific, his icing colors are Americolors just repackaged with his name. It's all about licensing, major bucks in it.

I loooove watching Ace of Cakes however do get a bit miffed with the amount of non edible stuff and sometimes find myself thinking well where is the cake but it is fun to watch. Cake boss - there is far too much shouting going on there!

We wont get Duff products in the Uk so no worries about me buying any of their stuff lol. I dont buy cake mixes but had a look at the Betty Crockers and they are like £2 over here and full of E numbers yuk.

I think Duff was offered to make his own line by Wilton and hey why not he is in business after all and I am sure he didnt have any input into the prices they are sold for and at $1000 for his cheapest cake maybe he thinks 8/9 is ok for a cake mix lol

I agree with you all...the pricing of Duff's stuff is insane. But I must admit I was doing a cake a couple weeks ago and I needed black fondant. I have never gotten a very good color when starting with white or even chocolate fondant. So I thought what the hay I will save myself sometime and break down and buy Duff. I have to say I was sort of impressed, by the taste that is. We all know how awesomely not wonderful Wilton's fondant tastes so when I tasted the "buttercream" black fondant from Duff's line, I was pleased. My cake wouldn't taste like it just had a chemical bath! LOL! But I don't think I will be buying anymore at 20 buckaroos a pop. No sir!

If I came home with an $8.00 cake mix, that cake had best bake AND ice itself. I'm just saying.

A friend recommended a site to get Satin Ice and Fondirific fondant for much better prices. Someone saide they pay $15 for 2lbs I think that is quite high. Check out fondantsource.com Company name is Jester and they have 5 lb Satin Ice for 16.99 or 20 lb for $45 Thats only $2.25 per lb, much better than $7.5 per lb.

I purchased a box of Duff's yellow cake mix and made it yesterday along with a Duncan Hines Butter mix. They both baked at the same time, in the same kind of pan, and at 325 degrees. The Duff mix baked faster, domed like I've never seen before, and after tasting, it I was very surprised. It not only was not tasty, it left an unpleasant taste. By the time it was leveled, it wouldn't have made a very nice layer cake but because it didn't taste good I didn't use it at all. Never serve a cake that doesn't taste yummy. Maybe baking at the lower temp. caused the crown but the DH states to bake it at 375. I got it with a 50% off coupon really just to see what all the rave is about. What a disappointment! The Duncan Hines baked level, taller, and it was very tasty. Compare $7.99 for Duff's, $1.13 at Target for DH--it's a no brainer.

I bought the buttercream fondant and thought it tasted pretty good. But it was kinda expensive. It seemed to go farther than Wilton or Satin Ice fondant.

I would only buy it again if I have a coupon.

We just bought some of the Duff spray to apply a silver color to some fondant decorations. The spray can literally worked for about 10 seconds before it clogged. We ended up returning them to Michaels for a refund.

cakedecofun: I would recommend returning the empty box to Michaels (with your receipt of course) and asking for a refund since you were not satisfied with the product. If enough people end up returning this line of products, Michaels will think twice about carrying them.

Well, I don't think there's a need to boycott. You can't knock the guy for being a business man and trying to market off himself BUT like some people have said its prob going to be bought by the fans and or new cake decorators. Well, I have to say im one of those new cake decorators. I bought the cake mix with a 50% off coupon and I have to say too...I was not impressed. A doctored cake mix tastes better and yields more cake too! I buoght the red fondant too bc I was in a jam and none of the stores around me had any red fondant in stock. I have to say that it was the tastiest ready to use fondant I ever had. Kinda had a starburst candy flavor to it. It was expensive tho. Used a 50% off coupon but still. Well, those are my thoughts. Don't knock the guy...sending negative energy out there only means a return of negative energy...who wants that!?

I love to watch Duff and friend create great cake as well, but I will stick with my DH and BC mixes to create delicious cakes besides, the price is right.
