So I'm at Michael's today and they just got in a whole line of Duff's products (I'm sure in other parts of the country this stuff has been out awhile). Which look really funny next to the Wilton stuff. You know...his stuff is all "cool", etc. Anyway, he has alot of fondant in various flavors. I thought maybe if I needed some I would try it instead of ordering the Satin Ice and paying shipping.
But WHOA!!! His fondant is $19.99 for 2lbs. I just started ordering Satin Ice and I paid $8.90 for 2lbs and even with shipping it's still way cheaper. (I'm only ordering small amounts since I'm just learning to really decorate). I mean there are coupons and all, but only for one product so it would still be really expensive!
Has anyone used his fondant? I'm just curious if it's really awesome or something since it's so pricey. Or if it's just priced for someone will be impressed with a celebrity and have no idea that it's expensive???
He did have a number of fairly inexpensive tools (like impression mats & such) that I might get. And if I wasn't learning to decorate cakes, his "tattoo" edible imagines might be fun!
The Micheal's store here hasn't reset either so we don't have any of the new cool stuff either
That's interesting considering that he said in the Food Network magazine that fondant wasn't for eating, just to keep the cake moist. $19.99 for 2 lbs is pretty expensive for that!
His fondant is either Satin Ice or Fondarific with his name/label on it. I can't remember which it is for sure, but it's one of them.

So I guess they are charging for his picture...LOL!!!
The Duff fondant in Michael's is Fondarific. The fondant he endorses thru Deco Pac is Satin Ice.
Time to hoard those coupons

you know he is not making the fondant....he has talked about buying fondant on the show and in his book.

oh yeah !!!
And that is waaaay.....to much to spend on fondant just because hes on the package lol !!!
Oh and by the way I have definitely notice the flavor improvement in wilton's fondant so for emergency's I am definitely going to have that in my pantry.
I noticed the Duff stuff at our Michael's on Saturday. Anyone tried his cake mixes yet? I'm interested in that since I heard several folks at a cake convention talk about how nasty his cakes tasted and they were like eating dry cornbread. I might buy a pack just to see for myself.
I actually find it rather funny that his face is plastered all over the colored fondant when on one of his episodes, he had NO IDEA that fondant could be purchased pre-colored...
I would only buy it in an emergency and with a coupon.
His cake mixes are $7.99 a box
He had some neat things like the wires and impression mats, but the pans have curved edges (just like Wilton's) and the tips are not any different just more expensive.
I was at Michaels tonight and noticed the Duff stuff too. Nice to know it is there if I am in a pinch, but still expensive. I am curious to know though what his colored icings taste like. I almost bought a tube/pack tonight, it was only $2.99, but if I came home with one more thing from Michaels I am sure my hubby would have gone over the edge.
Thank's for the info ladies ...I was just telling my hubby about it ! Pricing is definitely too rich for me....Think I will stick to Satin ice for now !
I did purchase Duffs fondant because with the coupons it is cheaper for me than shipping and purchasing satin ice. I would definately love to keep using satin ice but shipping is to high.
I tried it and it taste just like fondarific's buttercream flavor...I found it not to be as greasy as fondarific. Taste great, cost too much! But with a coupon, I'll buy it, and I mean a 50% off coupon!
i recently did a two tiered cake in all Duff fondant and was pretty impressed. i used the 50% off coupon at michaels to cut the cost. (it also saved me over an hour of driving as there is a michaels down the street and the closest i can get satin ice is pretty far).
i thought the taste was excellent (buttercream). the thing i was most impressed with is how well it covered. i was able to roll it out very thin compared to other fondant i have used and it never ripped or pulled apart at the edges like other storebought fondant has. also, i was able to mold it a bit like clay and a few seams i made were easily blended together - something i have not been able to do with other brands or homemade MMF. here is a link to the cake:

Moonbabel, after covering your cake, did the icing "harden"? I used some of this fondant on cookies, and it remained soft, unfortunately cookies stuck together.
I am looking at the prices you guys are posting and saying its way too expensive, here in Canada the fondant is $29.99 and the cake mix is $15.99 now even with a coupon that is rediculous I can make a cake from scratch cheaper
I went to Michaels and bought it Sunday for a Hawaii themed cake-mostly for the decorations...I was so impressed with the taste! I could eat it right out of the bin it tastes so good (I tried the buttercream). It's a little soft and doesn't harden as well as the others that I've tried though which might need to be taken into consideration if you're using it for figures HTH Oh and I used the coupon and with that it's a pretty comparable price to ordering online!

What is so many people's deal about not eating fondant? I don't think it's bad at all, maybe store bought fondant or something.
Satin Ice has come out with buttercream flavor now. Im going to try it on my next order. Has any one tasted it yet???
yep, satin ice buttercream flavor is good....much better than the vanilla flavor....rolls out nice too. but I still like fondariffic more.
I would love to have fondarific but the cost of shipping to canada for 100lbs was 150.00 (direct from fondarific at wholesale price).... that UPS guy had better kiss me for that price too....*LOL*... If they were to get a distributor here im sure they would sell huge amounts...
ok...some of you have me convinced !!! Will use a coupon and try Duff's , Thanks for all your comments !
I use it and I love it.. I won't buy it without the coupon though b/c $20 for 2 lbs is ridiculous.. but it is really easy to use, and it tastes sooooo good. The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't paint on it. With the Wilton fondant, I paint with food coloring and alcohol, but it beads up on the Duff fondant. So I've been using the Duff fondant, but if I need to paint something, I use Wilton, but it sucks because I can't paint on the actual cake if I wanted to...
(here is a pic of something I painted on Wilton fondant)
Wow, seems too expensive for my budget!! I think I'll stick to my homemade MMF. I can cover at least two cakes with my homemade MMF for less than $5 bucks. I"m not buying anything just b/c a name is on it. I love his show but I'll stick to the homemade way. Soooo, much cheaper!!

That's not cool.. especially when you can buy fondarific and it tastes so good! Why not get more for your money and eat it too? lol.
