So I used a sketch from cakelady247 (thanks) and an outline of a cupcake wrapper and using a little photoshop magic, inkscape, and SCAL I cut this cupcake wrapper using my cricut and some card stock. I think it turned out super cute and it was just a quick edit.

wow, that's pretty! I was thinking about this very thing over the weekend! I thought you had to have a shape on one of the cartridges... sounds like you made your own and then cut it. I had no idea you could do that! You've got my brain thinking...

Jenn, you make it sound so easy, but I'm no computer savvy and after reading the different programs you used I realized you must be good handling all that software. Have to admit that I don't know a thing about Cricut, am expecting to receive mine this month.

Well this has me re thinking about getting a laser cutting machine. I still don't want to spend the money on a cricut expressions but maybe a personal size (under $100.00) would do the trick for me. If you have a Cricut Machine you are half way there. What you need is a program you can purchase and download right on line. It's call Sure Cuts A Lot 2 or SCAL. You can do a google search for a coupon code also. So you can save a little money. Then you download the svg for the wrapper you want, open it with SCAL, hook up ur cricut via USB cord and cut them out. I make my own wrappers myself and have lots of designs already downloaded for wrappers. I did a search for them on google and got plenty of hits for free svg's which is what they are called. If you look at these pics the 2nd 1 shows my wrappers I made recently.

I made 35 wrappers for a grand total of $3 which is what I paid for the scrapbook paper I used for them. So if you've ever bought wrappers you know what a saving that is. Hope this helps! Cristie

Send me an email and I can send you the file. It took a little time to understand how the programs work but once you figure it out there is so much you can do. SCAL has a ton to video tutorials that are very well done and helpful. I just got SCAL2 and haven't really used it yet but they made a bunch of improvements on it so I am looking forward to using it. I don't really do much at all with inkscape because I am better at using Paintshop Pro Phot X2.

I have SCAL and never made a cupcake wrapper...
in your instructions... you stated to upload the svg to SCAL... what is that?
How do I create a wrapper and print to my cricut from SCAL for this wrapper?

If you have SCAL and the cricut then all you need to do is search Google for "Free SVG Cupcake Wrapper". You will get plenty of files (svg's) to choose from. You need to download the 1's that you want. They will be in a zip folder. You need to right click on the file then click "open with" and click SCAL. It will then open in your Scal Program. You can then size it they way you want. Then cut it out on your cricut. I test a few till I get the right fit for my cupcakes. Hope this helps as I am still just learning SCAL myself. I just got my first Cricut and it's the Cricut Cake Model. I have had so much fun playing with it. I used the Cake Basics cartridge and cut out a doily. Then I just folded it in half, and cut the hole out of the center. It was super cute! THat's for those of you that don't have the SCAL. I am looking forward to purchasing that but I wanted to get familiar with my cricut first! Its not a very good picture but it worked great!

Is regular scrapbooking "paper" sturdy enough to make the wrappers or are you all using a heavier cardstock? My sister's baby shower is coming up soon and I planned on making some of these wrappers for the cupcakes I'm baking for her, but it seems like the scrapbooking paper has more designs than the cardstock. Where are you all purchasing your paper???

I do a LOT of cupcake wrappers on my cricut. There are carts that have them on there. Walmart exclusively carries a cupcake wrapper cart, and some like I think elmo has one.

I quit buying carts a while back and purchased SCAL 2. You can download svg files from the internet. I only use free ones.

There are also tutorials on using inkscape to take jpg files and convert them into svg (which it what you need for scal). I do not have the design studio software and don't feel I need to with the ability to use inkscape and scal.
