I always plan to make my b'day cake, but I am always cake'd out by the time my b'day rolls around. I usually get an ice cream cake from DQ, or my mom makes my favorite ice cream pie w/peanutbutter-fuge topping. YUMMMY!!

Y'all have made such nice cakes for yourself. I'm boring and a purist - for me it's a big slab of thick, creamy, artery-clogging New York cheesecake from a really good restaurant...and no mucking it up with berries, sauces, chocolate or anything else. Just....plain....cheesecake. LOL!

My birthday was a couple of weeks ago and that is what I told my hubby to get me..an ice cream cake. And I love it! I just finished a piece as I was reading this. icon_biggrin.gif

chefbarbie, that is a BANGIN' cake. SERIOUSLY awesome! ceshell... excellent work as always!! You can even make 'lazy' look good! Bless your heart, I have made myself a few cakes like that.

ONE year with the encouragement of a WONDERFUL friend I met here, I made myself an actually pretty cake! It turned out to be a lot of fun. I even did two different set-ups with it, one has columns that I hand covered in rhinestones, but I like this version with no columns because it looks like I'm standing behind the cake leaning over it. thumbs_up.gif

Last year my 4 year old son asked if he could make me a cake. I wanted to try a new cake recipe, so I baked and made icing in the colors that he requested. He had an absolute blast decorating it!

Since I make cakes for family & friends, I used my birthday as an excuse to make something a little different!

My kids usually make and decorate my birthday cakes with the help of their grandma (my mother). I love it and they are so proud of their creation.

This year I asked my husband to buy me a fancy cake from a nearby bakery that has a great reputation. That was the only gift I wanted...but as the time drew near, I just could not stand the thought of him paying $280 for a cake I could make myself. In the end I had a tupperware tub of cake tops with leftover icing and filling slapped on the top. Sorry no photos. But I did get a Cricut Cake instead!

Hello ladies, I am new to the group and thought I would share too. I took the Wiltons classes (a mothers day gift from my husband and kids) and I am in love with it!!! I love reading this blog and all the advise and techniques everyone has to offer...I have found many answers.Im pretty new to this but love to use my imagination and dream up creations. Hopefully with the help of everyones knowledge and trial and error...I too will be able to help someone out. Just thought id share my favorite cake I've made yet. This was for a family friend little boy.
