I teach at Hobby Lobby here in Tulsa, OK. Started last February so been teaching a little over a year now. It's been so much fun. Good luck to all you new WMI's.

Tracy I'm not totally sure, but I would say it doesn't hurt to fill it out again. Also on the Wilton website there is a place to check to see if there are any openings in your area.

Oh and I don't mind being called a superstar. icon_wink.gif

Tamyarm, I'm at the Michaels in Tyler.

Just wanted to add...

If you haven't alraedy heard about it or joined, there is a Yahoo Group that is just for WMIs. It is a great resource of information, a good place to ask class related questions or get help on situations you may have come across in class.

Send an email to: WiltonMI-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Selina (sweetcakes on here I believe) is the one that started it and she will just ask you a couple of questions to verify that you are an WMI then will get you set up.

I am a WMI! I have been for 1.5 years now. Love every minute of it and it gives me a reason to get out of my house and take time for myself without feeling guilty about hiring a babysitter. LOL. Our store has been so busy with course we can hardly keep up with demand. I am looking forward to June.

Did you have to go to the Wilton School and take the Master courses to be employed to teach Wilton at Joann's or Michael's. Have thought about doing this and was wondering if they pay you a flat fee per class or by the student?
No, you don't have to do the master courses. I do think it helps if you have taken the courses, but I don't think you are required to have taken them.

The pay is based off the number of students you have. I don't know if it is exactly the same at every account but if you want to know about Michaels you can PM me. I'd rather not post it on here. Depending on which account you work at you will be required to do different things like demos and such. Unless you have a bunch of classes going every month, to me it is more a part time job for spending money. I'm sure there are some that do this to pay bills, but for me what I make varies too much month to month to really be able to budget the money coming in.

Go to Wilton.com and you can find the appliciation for being a WMI to see what questions they ask you.

I had someone ask me recently about the girl scout cake decorating patch and told them I would look into it. If I was going to do this with them, is this something I do through my store or just on my own? Do I order the kits through wilton? Has anyone done this?

I've been teaching for 12 years. First at a JoAnne's store for a couple of years, at a Michael's store for 3 years and at my own store for 10 years now. It's a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the new curriculum!

I applied to be a Wilton Instructor several years ago but was treated so nastily by the Wilton rep who called me, I would never consider it. Keep in mind that I developed a nationally accredited associate level program and taught college for 7 years when I had applied. I was a fairly new decorator at the time, but definitely had the skills. (I filled in several times for my Wilton instructor.) I wanted to do it because I thought it would be fun (at the time I was self-employed and had a flexible schedule.)
