Most of you know I've been struggling with this for the last couple of weeks determined to be the Victor, well I think I finally got it beat. I have to say Linda helped me GREATLY and even went as far as to send me a sample to let me see what I was doing wrong. I had to go down further in thickness and I have to try even more tylose. I used 3Tbl but her gumpaste is way stiffer than mine was. I live 2 miles from the lake so maybe the humidity??????? Anyway, I'm going to try to post you all a picture. The blue was Linda's paste the white mine. Now to figure out the SCAL the rest of the way and watch me on the cakes. I'm excited!!!!!! Those of you that haven't got the victory yet don't give up it will be worth it in the end!!!!!!

Now to get the victory on homemade fondant any tips??????? It's always too soft for me. Probably because of the humidity once again.

That's exciting isn't it. It took me a long time to get it to work for me too. This past week I even got it to work using straight fondant to cut letters for a birthday cake. I am super excited for my Cricut Cake in a couple of weeks because the gumpaste can be thicker. I also like to use modeling chocolate with the Cricut.

YAY, I am so happy you got it to work!

My cricut cake is SUPPOSED to ship 5/7 and I am really excited! I don't know how I will ever make it that long! I feel like a kid that just got the toys-r-us catalog but still has to wait 3 weeks for christmas !!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I even made a batch of gumpaste so it would have time to cure really well before my experiments begin! icon_twisted.gif
I use the Nicholas Lodge recipe and mine is pretty firm, Hope that makes it easier to use. icon_razz.gif

My cricut cake arrived today and wanted to test it out. I did not have gumpaste, so I used Satin Ice fondant. I tried it straight out of the bucket and it did not work. Then I got some more out and put in the freezer for 30 minutes. I am not happy with the results I got. icon_sad.gif I have to work more at it. I hope that I get some more play time on Saturday. icon_smile.gif

I think if you would of put some gumtex in with the fondant it would of firmed it up some. Does the cake say it cuts fondant? It just needs to be firmer is all. I like the designs did those come with the cake cartridge? It's trial and error I'm finding out.

Does anyone have an svg file for that small littel princess crown that they are willing to share? I have to do cupcakes this weekend with those on them.

It was late and I was tired, so I gave up. lol icon_biggrin.gif I will try adding gumtex this weekend. All those designs do come in the cartridge that is included with the cricut cake. I know that the cricut cake has been tested with fondant and the results were good. I really like working with fondant better than I like gumpaste. I will keep on trying with fondant until it's perfect. icon_biggrin.gif I will keep you all posted... icon_wink.gif

I would think that the designs they were showing that were wrapped around cakes and some of the bent designs would be able to be done on fondant so they would be flexible????????

It would be hard to do a lot of those if you have to use firm gumpaste.

Did yours come with the video that the bundle package said it came with, I wonder if there are any tips in it?

You can do reg. fondant , just let it sit and dry for a few hours, it will cut perfectly and yet still be pliable enough to put around cakes.

The video just shows you the basics of the machine and a demo on how to roll out the gumpaste and put it on the mat. I have learned more here at CC and online than what I learned in that short video. I will take pics when I play with it again this Saturday. I know it;s great with gumpaste, but I want to use it for fondant. I think that my problem had to do with the speed and thickness of the fondant. I think I did not roll it thin enough. They do tell you to roll it as thin as you can.

I got my machine out last night, and pulled out some MMF I had left over. First go, I rolled it a bit too thick (I realize now, I did not try reducing the pressure with that piece). Second time I rolled it thinner, and chilled longer. Decreased pressure, and got a couple of decent easy pieces. Tried it again with more complicated, and it didn't do as well.
This morning I added Tylose to the MMF, so will be playing with that shortly. I have to get a cake baked, and fondant ready, for after school- my 10yo son is planning to decorate a cake!!

On the DVD, they roll and cut gumpaste. I too am interested in fondant (see last post). I will try the roll and dry, as well as the fondant/tylose.

On the Cricut facebook page one lady mixed 50/50 marshmallow fondant and gumpaste and it worked well. Another suggested Satin Ice fondant wich I had so I tried and it worked well with out freezing. I had no luck with straight marshmallow fondant. store bought gumpaste worked too but it dries stiff so I am wanting to use fondant.

this is my first try.. I used satin ice gumpaste, I just let it sit out for about 10 min

cuts were a little rough on the more intricate design

I also tried frosting sheets.. did not work for me at all. just tore them up.
(used kopykake brand)

if anyone has tips on using the frosting sheets would love the help
