Marci_Jay, would you mind looking on the package and telling me if this product is kosher? It would have either a U, V, or K in a circle or other shape. I'd really appreciate it!!

Thanks,
Kathi

Zut! I just used my whole canister of Wilton g.p. mix to make gum paste... May have to go get another one tomorrow to try this! Looking to make a 3D Eiffel Tower out of RI, but afraid RI will be too brittle. This should work great!

Ok, I just tried this method with Wilton GP mix, I tried a few different ratios of water to GP mix ...and I am not sure if it has worked. For my first try I used 1/3 C. H2O+1 C. of GP mix = no good. Try #2 might be the ticket; 1/3 C H2O+2 C. GP mix. This mixture held its shape after piping, unlike try #1 which just oozed together into a mess. I am going to let the second one dry over night to see what its like in the morning. I hope it works...but it was totally fun experimenting today! I took pictures of all of the steps, I'll post them later with my results after plenty of drying time.

Question: is TBK gumpaste mix the same as the other gumpaste mixes in a bag? Or do you have to use THAT brand?

If you are referring to Lori on Amazing Wedding Cakes (and certainly, maybe you are referring to something else entirely,) she was using Sugar Veil which is a little different than what I am assuming the results of the above results will be (I'm thinking "close, but no cigar" simply because this does become a little more rigid over time.) Sugar Veil is wonderful and stays flexible, but soooo expensive for those of us who are just hobbyists. If the gumpaste trick gets me "close," I'd be a happy camper.

I made this today with Wilton Gumpaste Mix ..I used 1 1/3 cup of the mix and 1/3 cup of hot water and then beat the heck out of it like you do for royal icing for about 10 minutes . It worked turnewd into the sticky pipable mixture . I colored it as well !

I piped out two butterflies and some dots .

Left them to dry overnite it will be interesting to see the results.

Also awaiting answers. This would be so much fun if you can use Wilton gumpaste. Shipping on the Baker's brand is what gets me. I just received an order and then the ad came out. Darn!

June, just curious - why do you try to avoid anything having to do with RI because you live in Hawaii? Is it because of the heat and humidity or something else?

I tried it with the CK gum paste. I've never tried a tiara with RI before, so I didn't really know what I was doing, but it worked! I started with 1/3 cup hot water and 1 cup gum paste, but that was too watery. I just stated adding more gum paste powder till I got the consistency that looked right (sorry! I'll measure next time). I pulled it off the paper last night and nothing cracked or broke off. I'd call that a success!

Thanks to the OP. thumbs_up.gif LOVE this idea!
