OMG, An apartment fire in the Cake Girls building completely destroys The World Famous Cake Girls Bakery in Chicago. Wedding season is coming and there are hundreds of orders to be filled. Lets pray that they will be back up and running very soon.[/center]

Does anyone have any ideas, on what we can do to help these wonderful women? We need to band together as decorators and help in any way we can here on CC and anywhere else we can spread the word!!! Any ideas anyone or contacts or a fundraiser? icon_sad.gif

What terrible news......I hope they can retrieve their records - and they are very resourceful, they will be back and running as quick as they can I am sure. Sending prayers their way.....

So sad for the Maher sisters, their employees and customers and everyone else who lived and/or worked in the building!

Wow! So sad! I think Mary and Brenda have been an inspiration to all of us. And to see all of that hard work literally go up in flames! This is heart breaking!

But knowing how strong they are, I know they will rebuild and pull through it.

I don't think a fundraiser is the answer--while a noble gesture, I'm sure they were amply insured. Their biggest problem is whether or not they had off-site backups of their records, especially for upcoming orders.

Very sad day indeed, but they WILL recover... it will take time, but you won't keep artists like this down!

OMG!!! How terrible...good thing they were not hurt...I agree with pinkziab I'm sure they were heavily insured and certain that they will recover better than ever!! Sad this had to happen to them icon_sad.gif but confident this won't stop them! I do pray for their speedy return and hope they did back up their records off site...something I have never thought about.

Wow! How sad. They are indeed an inspiration to us all and I'm sure they will do what they can to be back in business as quickly as they can. The upside to it all is that no one was hurt which is a blessing.

So sad, that's got to be so hard. Just figuring out their booked orders, hopefully they have their computer backed up offsite. Ill be thinking of them and praying for their quick return. Such a huge loss for them.

We need to pray for a speedy, snag free settlement with their insurance company so they can start rebuilding right away.

They are in tears. This footage was on our local news this morning -- it's so sad.

Not that I don't feel TERRIBLE for Mary and Brenda, because I do, but that poor girl who lived upstairs is literally walking away homeless, with her cat and the clothes on her back... THAT is the most heartbreaking part of this story.

Cake Girls is just a few blocks from my house I heard the choppers this morning and wondered what had happened when I turned on the news at 6:30 this morning all they were saying is that there had been a fire on Belmont. My daughter called me from her dental office that is right around the corner from there and said that Cake Girls had burned down. I believe there is a fund account for them and the tenent that was burned out at a Star Bucks across the street from them I can get the address if anyone would like it. Or go to http://wgntv.com they may have the address of starbucks up already. So sad.
