The plastic beads cry out choking hazard. The woman that did this mess obviously needs her head examined.

icon_surprised.gif That is one sad sad SAD wedding cake. Maybe someone needs to tell the decorator not to use her airbrush for a hookah pipe... OP, amazing save! The fact that it was old and dry really is "the icing on the cake", isn't it?

I believe the story too. Mainly because I've seen several badly decorated cakes that someone had the nerve to charge for. Not too long ago a friend of mine ordered a cake from a home baker and the cake was horrible. The cake showed through the bread and it looked sloppy. She had originally asked me to make it but she wanted a 3 teir cake for about 40 dollars. When I told her that it wouldn't even cover my supplies she went with this lady. Sad to say she got what she paid for. The only thing I think is untrue about the story is the price. I don't think anyone would pay her that much for that cake.

I don't know why, but when I look at your photos I do not see the cake pictures. Are they posted elsewhere? This is really odd....

That's enough right there. Can you say inexperienced illegal home baker?

This is a one phone call deal... illegal is illegal period.

I hope your venue won't be held responsible for allowing an unlicensed baker to supply a cake to your venue should this get into a legal fight.

As a venue you really should check with vendors that they are licensed and insured before allowing their product in your venue.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe what it looked before! You really did a nice job on the cake.

Yes, I believe your story.

Can you imagaine what the bride would have thought had she seen the original cake?

Wow- how in the world could someone think that leaving a cake like that is okay? Seriously? Had the woman never seen a stacked cake before? Just because you can open a box of cake mix and slap on some frosting and some fake flowers does not make you a cake decorator.

Thank goodness you were there and had your supplies there because if I had been that bride, I'd have cried my eyes out looking at that. And I definitely agree that the mother should try to get her money back but I doubt that she'll ever see a dime of it.

Thank you for posting the photos. there is absolutely no way I would ever believe that was the same cake. I cannot believe anyone would bring that cake to be used at a wedding. Thank goodness you were there to save the cake for the bride. Excellent job. (I wonder if that would be a cake that cakewrecks would like for their site........ )

The cake pictures were removed by the moderator. Someone else reposted the pictures on page 3 or 4 of this thread.

Hope that helps.

Great job on saving the cake! It's hard to believe any grown person would think that's acceptable. Accident's happen....but that wasn't an accident! You should send her (the cake decorator) an invoice for your time to repair her work.

Yep, you've officially achieved Cake Angel status! Thank heaven you were there and prepared.

TX is very tough on illegal bakers. This mess merits an anonymous call to the Health Dept. and or Dept. of Agriculture.

Anyone who could even think that this is a proper wedding cake has had NO training. She shouldn't be allowed to continue to dupe the unsuspecting public--she's a REAL criminal.

oh my... i would be showing those pics to the bride just so she can acknowledged how much you saved that cake. best case senario, by saying something you will avoid the bride from recommending the caker to other people

and yep - i would be submitting these to cake wrecks also

nice act in fixing the cake

Gulp! This might be a cake site, but I just swallowed a big bite of humble pie. Sorry I doubted you, MandBbrizown. I might be a little late, but here is a big helping of kudos. I really appreciate your compassion for the poor bride, and your talent for such a remarkable repair. It still boggles the mind to think anyone would think such a wreck would be acceptable.

How in the world did you fix that monstruosity?!?

What was she thinking?!?!

OMG.

Even I, being a beginner, can see how poor of a work she did. And she call herself a cake decorator. WHAT???

Anyway, this just go to show what a real decorator is capable of doing. Great job! you are an angel!! thumbs_up.gif

Did the bride see any of her previous work? I just dont understand how someone can charge $85 a slice. Not even Sylvia Weinstock charges that much for her cakes unless their covered with sugar roses. Maybe $85 for the entire cake? Even that seems a bit much for what she delivered but unless the bride was drunk, I dont see how she would be willing to pay that much with someone that obviously never did a tiered cake before. Something wrong here!

She $85 per TIER, not $85 per slice. Big difference,

Ok, if I was wrong, sorry! I'm not too big a person to admit it!.

It just STILL seems so incredible! I expect people to have at least enough class and respect for the profession they claim to represent NOT to present something that horrendous as a centerpiece of someone's most important day!

Recently on facebook my status was..."kansaslaura" has decided that if there was a "Take a Big Stupid Idiot to Lunch Day" restaurants would make a killing...

I call them BSI's now.. sounds so much better than the A. H. name... icon_rolleyes.gif

I would hope that since the OP repaired and made presentable the "CAKE" that everyone involved knows what it was to start with. I would certainly hope the decorator would not get credit for the final product.. You know---don't let it breed anymore!
