Ok that's just ridiculous. That is what scares me about all these sites I see with stolen pics on them. People don't know that the pics are not the decorators work. I personally look at hundreds if not thousands of cake pics a week and so I can usually pinpoint the stolen pics. My site has only my pics on it so the customer can see my work. And there is NO WAY I would ever deliver a cake that looked like that to anyone...nope..not with my name on it.

Great save though. You did an incredible job with what you were given to work with.

How difficult would it be to consider this scenario: generic cakes brought to venue, crumbcoated but not leveled, on boards, with the flowers in separate container (Ziplock bag); "wedding cake" to be completed at venue.
Person or persons at venue thought it would be funny to mess around, stacked the generic cakes, threw on some of the flowers and beads ( notice the beads are only on the board, not the cake ) and took a "before" picture. Then he/she/they went to work doing the job they were hired to do, which was to produce an acceptable cake for this wedding.
Just a thought.........

Jeeees you really haven't read this thread have you? The poor OP has ALREADY defended herself from sceptics, cut her some slack. If you had read her reply you'd probably realise that it is unlikely to be a hoax.

As you blocked my Pm barbbouk, I must post my reply to yours' here.

I have been here a while, and have seen this sort of thing develop into a huge mess.
Not to mention the owners of the site have asked the moderators to crack down on personal posts. They have recently banned several long term (and other) posters for just such posts.
I don't want ANYONE banned.

Happy caking!

I'm taking some time off from here.
It seems I'm getting involved in a flame war, and do not wish to.
See you all when I get back.

I don't buy it, either, and in my opinion it's not worth the hoopla.

To all the people who just can't wrap your mind around this "actually happening" I AM SORRY BUT IT DID! I did not post this on here to be praised and made a hero. Did I really need praise from people that I have never met? Besides, the only person who has read this forum and heard the praises is my mother and she was at the event and saw the cake in real life. So, if you think I am making this up for glory or something, you are wrong. Someone posted on this thread about the American Idol competition and I have to agree with her. Have you ever noticed how many terrible singers go on that show, because someone told them they were good. Hell, that's why the auditions are the most watched. We love seeing these people, with all this confidence get a reality check. Same story here. This lady obviously had someone telling her that her cakes were great. I can't help that.
I used to teach cake decorating classes at my job at a rec center. Most of my students are still very timid about selling their work. That's because I didn't fill them with false hope. However, I had one student that thought she was freakin' Duff Goldman. One time, I had to tell her not to do a wedding cake, cause I did not think she was good enough yet. She didn't do the wedding cake but she did do some other large event cakes. When she showed me the pictures I told her what she could have done better and the things she did well on. But, I didn't tell her she was great and she should charge ridiculous amounts for her cakes. Anyway
When I was getting my supplies to fix the cake together I called one of my best cake students. I told her that I was calling to tell her how proud I was of her. She was like "Oh my God did I do something wrong." I told her what this cake looked like and I knew that she could have done that cake ten times better with her eyes closed. I was proud to know that none of my students would have even thought about sending out something like that. When I showed her the picture she was floored.
The main reason that I posted on her was to vent. Everyone who had seen it thought it was bad. But they were not cake decorators. They didn't see all the imperfections that were just outright wrong. I was completely baffled and angry. The reason I think I was so angry was because I had met the MOB prior to the wedding. She was coming to pay the rest of her balance for the reception. I had to take the money from her and she came over while I was working on a cake. I offered to do her daughter's wedding cake but she said she already made an agreement with another lady. She said she had already paid most of the cake off and didn't want to cancel her order. I told her how much I would do the cake for and she said I wish I would have known that and I would have gone with you. I told her that I was sorry but that I was sure the cake she was getting would be beautiful. She was so sweet. Then when that heifer showed up with that cake and I knew what I could have done for cheaper, I was furious. Plus I had told her that I was sure would be good. I felt so bad for this family. That's why I fixed the cake. I was expecting to see this gorgeous cake. I just couldn't let this woman get away with the money she did and the crap work she left behind.
So all of you who have been so sweet and nice to me thank you from the bottom of my heart. It has been a true spirit lifter. However, It happened and it's in the past. So there is no more need for your praises. Thank you so much.
And for those who don't believe. I don't know what to tell ya. I can't sit here and have the MOB, my mother, my father, and some of the family at the wedding come on here and prove it. So I guess I will never convince you and I am not even gonna try anymore.

The one thing that kept running thru my mind that day was something Leo Buscaglia said. "Your talent is your gift from God and what you do with that talent is your gift TO God."
So good night and happy decorating

I think JanH posted the links to the rules page. The rules explain what's acceptable and what isn't.

And no, not everyone gets banned for objectionable behavior or using crude words. But that's a whole other can of worms. I'm not sure how they go about that process...maybe based on reported posts? No idea...
