I made color flow icing for the first time last night and it worked fine except that the finish is very dull. I thought it was supposed to be shiny. I beat it the length of time according to the recipe. Any ideas?

It isn't real real shiny, but shouldn't be dull. I don't use the color flow product, but just make my run sugar with regular royal icing. The faster it dries, the shinier it is, so I dry my pieces under a warm (not hot!) lamp. Also royal with egg white will dry much shinier than meringue powder royal. I know some people add light corn syrup to make their royal dry shinier too.

You can brush your piece with a glaze to make it nice and shiny also. I mix gin and corn syrup 50/50 and paint it over my pieces somethimes
