I have noticed alot of cookie bakers sell their cookies as platters. I have a few questions.

1. Where do you get your platters?
2. How many cookies to a platter?
3. What is the average price for a platter?

I've been shopping platters too. So far the cheapest I've found in person, not online, is at the Sam's bakery. They will sell the ones they package the big cookies in. I haven't ordered any yet so the price escapes me.

Every time I go to a party or PTA event, I stick around to help clean up and then I ask if I can have the platters that the sandwiches etc were on. Most people throw them out (or recycle them) so they are happy to give them to me. I have amassed quite a stash. I sell my cookies by the lb, with a 2 lb minimum and thus have different size platters depending on the order.

My dollar store has some great plastic trays in various sizes that I've used in the past.

I often go to Christmas Tree Shops to get platters, baskets, and boxes.

pattycakesnj, do you sell the decorated cookies by the pound too or by individual cookie.

How many decorated sugar cookies would you guys put into a $50 platter?

luv2bake6, I sell my decorated cookies for $4 and up each. You wouldn't get many decorated cookies for a $50 platter from me. My cookies by the pound are different, I charge $10 a pound for different types of gourmet cookies, unique types, not your basic chocolate chip, etc (though if someone wanted to order them, I wouldn't turn it down)

You're so lucky cuz i could not get anyone to pay $4 a cookie. The average price that the few decorators in my area charge is $2 a cookie for a 2-3 inch cookie, and $3 for 4 inches or larger. Even when i quote $2 a cookie, i get the grunts.

I think it all depends on where you live. There is no way I can get 4 and up for a cookie where I live either.

Same here. $50 would have to be about 3 dozen.

I live right outside of NYC and I am considered cheap in my pricing compared to others. But like sweetcreationsbykimberly said, it is all based on where you live, what the market will bear so I am lucky in that respect. But that being said, my costs are higher, rents are thru the roof, cost of living is horrible, high property taxes, highest car insurance rates in the US, etc

and i charge $48, for 24 easy cookies, and $60 for advanced

Do you think it's better to charge per cookie or per dozen? (for decorated cookies, not chocolate chip and the likes)
