I am doing a cake for our schools read-a-thon. I would like do a sheet cake like the one in the link (each section I was going to decorate like one of the Dr. Suess books), I know it states that it is a 16 inch square but my question is do you put cardboard per 2 inches since the back is 6 inches tall? I don't know if they will want it fill or not and this needs to have about 100 servings? Please if you have any ideas I would appreciate it.

Although I can't see the cake in question... if the cake is just really tall, but basically one tier then you don't put cardboard in the middle, since you would have to pull the cake apart to slice. However if the cake is individual tiers that are all stacked up, then you would put cardboard on the bottom of each tier.

So if the cake is a stack of books, which each one a separate tier (maybe turned at angles to each other) then cardboard under each (and dowel them so the lower cake can support the upper cakes). If it is just a cube of cake where the sides of each individual sponge are iced as one cube, then just cardboard on the bottom.

You should do supports between every 2 layers of cakes. Have the bade cake, then cardboards and dowels under the 3 cakes in the corner, the cardboard and dowels under the top corner cake if that makes sense.
