Warning Of A New E-Mail Scam..... This One Is Clever

Hi friends!
Just a word of warning...if you get an e-mail from someone you know and they tell you they are in a certain place and have been mugged and need your help, it's a scam. I got one of these.... at first it took me back a bit, then as I thought about it, it didn't make sense. I call her and she said they took her e-mail account, changed her password and now she can't even get into her own acct.
The e-mail makes her sound frantic....I can see where someone might be fooled by this. I sent this to Denise and she said Earlene got one from someone asking her help as well. In the subject column mine just said HELP!!! But I get those types of e-mails, so I didn't think anything of opening it. Don't send $$$ to anyone asking thru e-mail, ever.
Just wanted to warn all of you. Jen
Honestly, if these people would spend half as much effort getting a job as they do in working these stupid scams...morons .
Thanks for the heads up. I bet you DO get lots of those messages, HELP! - then, "How do I make this gumpaste orchid?!?"
Thanks for that Jen! I wish these people would put their obviously good brains to better use. Think how much good they could do......
I've heard of this before.
To me if I had been mugged, chances were I would be picking up a phone and calling 911 not sending out an email.
Texassugar...that is exactly what got me thinking about the whole thing.
People really need to get a life....but the sad thing is, someone WILL send $$$. That is why they keep doing it.

I heard they are doing it on Facebook as well..... sigh....
It's so sad, because it takes away some trust in humanity.....

Yeah, got one from my sister's e-mail, "Help, I'm in London and lost everything; send money!" a friend of ours got it too and forwarded it to me with, "Oh, dear Lord, is she alright?!?" I was like, "Yep...preeeetty sure she would have mentioned having been mugged in England when I talked to her last nite"
Thank u for the heads up on that. Man, some people sure do have alot of time on their hands. I agree, if they would put as much time working, as they do in all of the scams they would probably be worth millions...
Someone tried to get me with that scam on Facebook!! It was from a friend who was supposedly in London and had been mugged and needed me to send $750!!
I was like, "ummmmm, NO!!"
It happened to a friend of ours here on Kauai, the joke was that our friend had played golf that afternoon with the person who wanted $1,500 in England as he had been mugged & everything he had was stolen, we were al ROTFL, this is a small Island, population 60,000 just about everyone knows everyone. It is actually sad.
I'd know right away it was a scam. All of my friends know I don't have any money, so why would they even ask?
Debi - LOL!
June - I'm shak'in my head at what people try to pull. The sad part is the person is locked out of their own e-mail...not good.

I got one of these months ago about another chef. It said he was in London for a culinary event and lost his wallet. Could I please send money so he can get home. A few of us in our network received this email. I thought funny he must travel pretty quick considering I just saw him this morning. I called Patric and told him what happened and an email was sent out to all of our network saying it was a scam.
One of the chefs emailed them back though just to screw with them. He emailed back. I just pulled out $10,000 since I won that small pot in the lottery. Tell me where you are located? They responded back and then the chef told them he was buying air fair to make sure he hand delivered it. This went back and forth several times. It got so funny because the scammers where getting so mad at him. He told them: "I've known this has been a scam since the beginning, how's it feel to be jerked around like a puppet?"

Can't fix stupid![/quote]
Is there anything to do to keep people from hacking your email?
That's scary.
I don't have any friends so I'm not worried about getting fake emails from them..lol
But I would be lost if I was locked out of my email for even 5 mins!
It is sad, but unfortunately it works on some people. Someone called my husbands grandmother using the "grandma, I need help" line, to which she thought it was my brother in law and replied, "is this Michael? What's wrong." And they went with it. She sent a money order for $1000 to some random person and called everyone frantic because she thought he was in trouble stranded somewhere. Even when he himself called and told her that he was fine she didn't believe him. It shook her up so badly. Thing is, she lives 8 hours away and hasn't seen him in years so why does she think he'd call her instead of his mom or any of his brothers who live ten minutes down the road. People just fall for things sometimes and sick people take advantage of it.
I received an email scammed. I answered back I am reporting you to law enforcement. Never received email scams. I changed my email address too.
