Do you use cake boards between each cake? Thought I had everything answered but then I was like hey am I suppose to use a cake board under each cake?

Yes, you always use a cake board under each cake and dowel inside the tiers, no matter what the cakes are iced in. The only exception is if you are using the SPS in place of the boards and dowels.

Dowels in each of the lower cakes and yes, cake boards between each layer. HTH

Ok Thanks! One More question. My cakes seem to have baked a little smaller than the cake board itself. How can I cover the cake board? With a Boarder?

When that happens, I just use the board as a guide on how thick the buttercream/ganache is.

so would you use a cake board and dowels even if it's just a two-tier cake?

Any time you have one cake going on top of another you must provide support. It is the cake board and dowels that hold up the upper tiers, not the cakes below. Cake is not strong enough to support the weight of another cake on top of it.
