Well, I've been wanting/needing to try making petit fours for a while now and I finally got the chance over the weekend. I made a very dense, yummy pound cake which I torted once and filled with traditional buttercream. I put it in the freezer until it was solid and brought it out and sliced it. the pieces were approximately 1x2x2. This is big for a petit four so next time I will make them smaller. I put them back in the freezer until completely solid again. I dipped them in poured fondant, using the recipe from Wilton. I tried a couple of different methods of dipping them. What I ended up doing was just tossing them in the fondant, flipping them around a couple of times and then using a fork and a spatula to get it out. I had to work fairly quickly and my first ones were really lumpy. I meant to take a couple of other pictures but I forgot. I cooled them on a grid cooling rack.

The pink piping on them is too light. I just used some bc I had around.

Those look great! I do just the same as you did but spear them onto a bamboo skewer, dip (upside down) into the fondant, then put the skewer through the coooling grid hole (elevated on a bucket or something ), set the PF down, and pull the skewer out. Soooo fast!
