So after a huge pita with my mmf yesterday (another post) I got my cakes covered and everything was good. When I got up this morning there was a huge air bubble and I tried poking it with a pin and working it out but was not working so I put the cake on a smaller cake pan and smoothed the fondant down to get what I thought was air out - and it was partially air and partial butercream that came out the bottom. I think i fixed it - i wiped the excess bc from the bottom and trimmed the fondant again but the other cake I covered didn't do this. I let the cake rest in between each step.

Also, this may sound like a silly question but the cake is 2 tiers so the 10in is on a 10 in board and the 8in on a 8in board, but I need to get them to class tonight - if I put a dab of butercream on a larger board so I can get them to class will it hold in place? It will be asembled in class.

I hope this makes sense!

You could put a piece of non-slip under your cakes to hold them in place.

Oh Thanks! Is it okay to touch the fondant or should I cut the piece smaller than the cake? Also, can I store the fondant covered cake in a cake caddy? I think I remember reading that you shouldn't do that - but at least for the 15 minute drive to and from class?
