Royal Icing??? Hershey Kiss Roses
Decorating By dandelion Updated 20 Jan 2010 , 3:17am by chelleb1974
I've made BC roses with Kiss bases with great success and am now contemplating RI roses on Kiss bases. Has anyone tried this? I'm just afraid the oils from the chocolate will prevent the RI from setting properly. Any insight?
TIA

Great question! I may ask my Wilton instructor. Hershey's kisses should would make it easier.
Hi, Dandelion:
My Wilton instructor and I tried this on Saturday and it worked! It seemed it took a little longer for the rose to dry, but it did. My instructor also said that roses with RI are a little easier if you let the base dry a few minutes before adding the petals. Then there is no worry of the base drooping (which mine tend to do - ha). Take care!
Thanks!
I actually had a chance to try it too. My first few were a little crackly because I impatiently kept poking at them...but they ended up drying! Yay!
I find that the kisses make my roses fuller because I have a tendency to pipe really skinny bases. And people will more likely eat them because chocolate is more appealing than a huge lump of hard sugar
In my experience, the issue of grease and royal icing is more important when making the Royal Icing, rather than what you put the Royal Icing on.
HTH,
Chelle
