Where have you found crystal looking broaches to put in the middle of a bow?

I've tried to do some googling and I have found some pricey ones, but I just need something cheap and about 1 1/2 to 2"

Any ideas?

I often use jewelry pendants you can buy at craft stores for necklaces. They're much cheaper than a real broach! It's amazing how pretty some of them are too. I've even pried off some sparkly napkin holder rings and used them before.

I made some last week for a cake this week. Gumpaste, royal icing, dragees, GP pearls, disco dust and real rhinestones. Very neat looking, if you want to make them yourself.

They are just gorgeous and very reasonably priced. Attached is a picture of one of my cakes with the broaches attached. Hope this works because I'm not too great with attaching pictures!!!

I often ask the bride if she has a piece of jewlery with sentimental value to go on the cake. It makes it more personal.

I was thinking of trying Claire's in the mall. I think they are a nationwide store. I love that website though. I may just save myself a drive.

Lisa, I think it's B006 on page five. I didn't keep the shipping information but I'm pretty sure it's this one. I bought four the first time, then a bride lost one so I ordered another two so I would have enough for a four or five tier cake.

That one is very pretty. Thanks so much for the tip! I was just planning to begin a seven tier cake with black ribbons and bows with a brooch on each bow (very similar to the one you posted!!!). Sometimes the timing is just right. I bought a silver stand to put it on and think I'll surround the bottom tier with red roses. I wanted a "ta da" cake for the upcoming bridal show. I don't have time to do a detailed seven tier cake so thought this would be relatively easy.

Later that day we went to Macys and saw a bunch of pins that look almost exactly like the ones she used. They were half off. They also had some other styles.

Check there or some other department stores. They're probably all on clearance right now.

I've only had one bride who wanted a broach and she provided it. She found it at a really good price at an antique store.

But this is the kind of thing that I require a bride to provide. It's a non-cake decoration, just like flowers.

Yes Debi, I would tend to agree with you about the bride supplying them. I originally purchased mine to go on a dummy cake for a bridal show so they were bought for my own purpose originally. But now that I have them, I don't mind loaning them out to a bride (with a deposit). If they wanted a different style of broach, then they are on their own. I don't charge rental for them like I would a plateau or cake stand but it's certainly been advantageous to have them all the same.

I'm also using mine for a dummy cake for a cake show. I need something "wow" without putting in a ton of time since I have a lot of dummies to create.

I also needed one for a dummy cake, and mooched one out of a pile of costume jewelry an elderly relative was getting rid of.

If I had to find one now, on the quick and cheap, I'd go to the mall to Forever 21. They've got scads of cheap gaudies!

When I was getting my faux cake ready for the bridal show, I found that there's no trouble getting one, maybe two, broaches that were alike. But I couldn't get four alike and I looked in every store from Walmart to the jewellery stores to the craft stores and everywhere in between!!

If your cake style is four or five or more tiers and you want all the broaches to look the same, then you may find you have the same problem as I did. Luckily I stumbled across this jewellery site and problem solved!!
