I actually used both- a little bit of chocolate on the back of the cake bite and then slid it on the toothpick.
So, if you were making this for an actual wedding, what would you use for the center? Would you just wrap styrofoam dummies for support? or would you actually use cake? Actually stack the cake balls up in rows (from the center, out). I guess it could just depend on what the bride wanted...
How many cake balls did it take to cover what you finished? What size cakes did you use? I'm information gathering, can you tell?
Sorry for all the questions, please feel free to ignore me lol
OK, I have to admit it...when I saw the topic "cake ball wedding cake" I immediately went, "Ugh...you've got to be kidding." But let me tell you - this is GORGEOUS! I was so skeptical about a wedding cake of cake balls but you've totally converted me! This is really beautiful and your use of the pink petals between the tiers is very striking and a brilliant move.
GREAT job!!
Love it! Very, very nice indeed.
My DD is supposed to be getting married sometime this year, with a small wedding.
This has the impact of a large cake, but not so much of it (for the mother of the bride to be tempted to eat).
I'll admit I thought that this was going to be so tacky, but it's so nice! You've got to share more details. Did you use round dummies? What sizes did you use? About how many balls did you use? Did you cover the dummies in something (melted choc.) before you stuck the balls on?
Absolutely gorgeous! I would have such a hard time not eating them instead of putting them on the cake!
That is so pretty!!!I also thought that it was strange, a cakeball wedding cake But now that I c it....Wow it is really awesome!!!Great job!!!
Wow, I can totally see two or three of these on a dessert table; small versions as guest table centerpieces; great item to deliver to an office ... from one company to another as a "Thanks for being our Customer" type of thing or Corporate Christmas Gifts.
This is gorgeous. I agree with IndyDebi, a great centerpiece also. A tutorial on making this would be great.
Lovely!
How beautiful would this be in white chocolate & pastels for a bridal or baby shower?
I will join the chorus and ask, "Tutorial please?!!?"

I would take Debi's idea of centerpieces and the idea for the white chocolate and pastels for the baby shower and combine. You could even do different shapes. Very cute idea!
Did a search for the OP's inspiration, and located it here...

Those of you looking for a tutorial might find it helpful. Many answers in the comments.
wow- talk about bringing up a post from the past!!
I'm so glad so many of you like the cake, but you really must direct the compliments to Auntie Ra Ra-- I totally copied her idea (with her permission, of couse)
To answer a few of the questions:, yes, they were round dummies I used, this one was a 6,8,10 round. Yes, I did use toothpicks to attach the cake bites.
I'd be more than happy to answer any other questions- ask away...
Oh Jill, you did such a better job...LOL I almost want to delete my first one, because I have done 4 since then and it looks so much better I actually saw something similar on the Internet and just changed the style. Took some trials to figure it out, but it was fun learning something on my own!
