I have found a recipe and it says 2 tablespoons of butter, does anyone know if that means heaped or level or is there a conversion somewhere tablespoon to weight

Usually butter labels have measurements on them. 1 stick is 8 tbsp.

Measure butter level not heaping unless it says so.

1 stickof butter equals 4 ozs or 1/4 lb,
8 TBSP equals 1/2 cup same 1/4 lb
so like Mensch said 2 TBSP equals 1 ounce.
and you can measure right from a stick of butter which is seperated by 1 TBSP lines, or you can weigh.

HTH
