WOW! I'm shocked - but it seems like you have planned everything out. And I know that it will work out the way that you want it to!

And you better believe - we are still counting on you for all of your business advice! And everything else that we get as well!

Debi,
Best wishes on your new endeavor <sp>! I totally agree that unless you have felt that pain you just can't understand. As someone who injured my lower back and have had back surgeries I can relate to most of the things you mentions (sleep, sitting, and for me standing and walking are issues) but anyway I can't tell you you are doing the right thing!Living with less pain in ones life is the biggest gift you can give yourself!

Best wishes and best of luck!

One of my nieces teaches kindergarten.....when she first started she quickly learned that she shouldn't wear "full" swinging style skirts....the little ones loved to use it to wipe their runny noses! icon_lol.gif

Congratulations, Debi, on making sweet lemon pie out of what could easily have been sour grape soup!

You're the kind of person who will be successful at whatever you turn your hand to, so I know you'll be a great teacher. Good luck with this major change in your life. Put your feet up and enjoy a rest for a while.

(Just out of interest, are you selling your business or liquidating it?)

I kinda lucked out. The kitchen designer who sold me the equipment called me for something totally unrelated. I shared my news and she expressed interest in buying it all back. (It was all new 2 years ago). So I connected her with the lienholder and she made an offer to them to purchase it. I am meeting her at the shop tomorrow and she is pulling it all out. She has also offered to take any non-liened equipment on a consignment basis to try to sell it for me, which is really awesome!! She'll just send me a check if/when she sells it.

I just went to your website and saw that you closed to health reasons, then it dawned on me about this post, it must have been posted by Indydebi!

Congratulations on teaching, you already are an amazing teacher! Now the schools can benefit from you. Best of luck (although I am sure you will not need it). icon_wink.gif

indydebi, I am stunned and embarassed! I have just begun coming back to CC after being away for a long time. (It was too depressing after closing my business that I literally cried each time I came to CC) I saw this thread and assumed it was someone I didn't know. When I saw you mention in another thread you were closing I did a search and found this thread about you closing.

First, let me say that I completely understand your pain as I have the same issue in my knees. I truly hope your new direction is enjoyable and more comfortable physically.

Second, I am so VERY happy that you are not leaving CC. icon_smile.gif You truly have been a "Forum Matriarch" offering everything from encouragement to techniques to business advice. We need you and your wonderful wisdom.

Third, congratulations on your full grant and the opportunity to pursue another one of your dreams. May God bless you with much happiness and success.

Your friend,
Kathi

Just share the dream.

As you receive ideas, tips, suggestions, and advice to help you get started, whether it be as a hobby or a business, just be sure to pass it on when you're in a position to help someone else when they are getting started.

It all comes back 10-fold. It really does. thumbs_up.gif

When I saw this post and the author of it, I opened the post with a face twisted with amused skepticism, the now famous line ringing out in my head, "You lie!", thinking it was just another one of Indy's smart-@ss jokes (and the reason I love her!).

But no.

The only condolences I have to offer are for the chronic pain - got it myself in both knees, but getting new knees early next year! I hope they can find a fix for your neck, too.

Congratulations on knowing when to say when, and on taking the next step towards the rest of your life - we know you'll knock 'em dead!!

(And I'll still hunt down and read every comment you make!)

Debi, I am a new user to Cake Central and the one thing I have learned so far is that people rely on you for advice. I was hoping to get some adivce from you, so I went to you web-site and that is where I learned you were taking on new adventures. I have 2 sons that are both teachers and I think teaching is a great thing to do for our youth. Maybe you could still help me out. I wanted to earn some extra money and was thinking about learning to make gum paste flowers and selling them over the internet. Am I crazy???? If not, what advice do you have for me? I live in Wisconsin and have not been able to find any classes, but I am still doing research. I have seen how-to-video's for sale on the internet, but I am not sure which ones are worth the money. Any advice from you or anyone else would be great.

Thanks

I went back to school at 50+ to get a second major and become certified. I must say, it was much more difficult to study for tests at my advanced age, but much more enjoyable to go to classes. I was an indifferent student the first time around and needed to prove to myself that I could excel. Ended up with my lowest test/quiz score being a 97. I studied, quite literally, night and day in order to do that. If I were to do it again, I would relax a little, but then, I've already proved myself, haven't I?

It was hard, at my age, to get an interview, but I did get a job - in middle school, no less. I taught back in the 70s and I find that I'm a much better teacher now than I was then. It's amazing what a little maturity will do for you. I have no doubt that, with your enthusiasm and your passion, you will be a great success. Good luck, and enjoy your journey.

PS - the staff is going to love your cakes!

Thanks so much for all the help Debi. I am constantly getting raves on your frosting. One person that I know and respect was recently wowed with a cake I served with your frosting "....WOW this is like really great wedding cake....". To me that was the ultimate compliment and you have been such a big part of being able to get to that point.

Thank you again. I hope that you do have a speaking career and I hope some day when you are out in sunny So. CA I get to hear your speak. Thanks so much for all of the tips, wisdom and wit. Enjoy this next adventure!!!
