Opening this thread, I had a moment like reading one of those really good books

First: (dramatic gasp) NO WAY!! She's leaving us? icon_cry.gif
Second: Yay! You go girl! icon_lol.gif
Third: Whew, ok, she's not leaving us. icon_biggrin.gif

Ms. Indydebi,

I know I'm still a newbie around here, but I don't think there's a person on CC that you haven't helped or inspired at least a couple of times. Thank you! You're awesome!

And BIG congrats on the grant and going back to school! I really envy your future students. I hope your neck starts to feel better. I can't even handle whiplash, much less a chronic neck problem. You're gonna be a GREAT teacher. As many have said already, you already are here! Even now, you are teaching us to know our limits.

Glad you're staying with us!! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Debi,
I'm shocked - but very happy for you ! You have always been our voice of reason, our book of information, and our comic relief around here....I'm so glad you are staying !
You deserve this 'second round'! I know you will be a great teacher with those junior high kids- kicking butt and takin' names and giving inspiration at the same time - just like you are here with us !

Please take care of yourself and try to get more help with the pain - we want you to be around here for a long, long time !

Congratulations on going back to school - and getting a grant, no less. My DH is about to go back to school through a new extended Post-9-11 GI Bill (100% covered + stipend for books, etc.), so another opportunity that cannot be passed up. He's pursuing the dream to be a college Accounting Prof.

I wish you happy, less-painful days. My neck pain was not caused by a car accident, but rather an "ocean accident" where a huge wave kicked my butt and also cracked ribs and messed with my neck vertebrae. I feel like I will always be "recovering."

Thank you for being a valuable teacher here on CC and I am glad to hear you will not be leaving us entirely icon_biggrin.gif

icon_cry.gif That's me being sad for me. icon_biggrin.gif but extemely happy for you in you new endeavor.

icon_razz.gif Hey don't knock my December wardrobe ~ I only wear Christmas sweaters and tops in December. It sure makes my 'what to wear today' question easy and have been doing this for 18 years.

ouch.gif I know about your pain ~ I too have arthritis in my neck to the extent of 'being a pain in the neck' to most. I also have arthritis in my tailbone thus 'being a pain in the butt' to most. Really it's true. It's where my arthritis pains are but now I feel it is creeping into my hands.

When I was at the university ages and ages ago my history prof was Japanese and I couldn't understand a word he said (his English was awful and I always thought he thought that Japan won the war). Needless to say I did not do well in his class. As far as me enjoying history I think I would have done well in it if it had more of the 'smut' thrown in to keep me interested. You know along the lines of a Rosemary Rogers novel. We all know it happened ~ it was just never talked about in history classes.
Do enjoy your new direction, do well in school and I will continue to look forward to your sage advice and honesty and humorous quips.

Carol

How exciting for you! I teach grade 8 history, and I absolutely love it. The textbooks are brutal, so you really have to search for exciting information and resources that will pull the students back in time, but if you're passionate about the subject, your students will share your passion. Best wishes!

I guess I don't have much new to say except "Wow! This is not what I was expecting". icon_eek.gif

Debi, you have been, and I know you will continue to be such a help and inspiration. At some point every day, I catch myself saying to my hubby "Indydebi says...." to make some point.

I totally and completely understand the headaches and neck pain. I was in a car accident at 26, so for the last 20 years, I too have had to watch how I sit, watch how I sleep, how I hold my head, etc, or I get tremendous headaches. I currently take medicine every night to keep me from waking up with a headache every day. Sometimes, I felt like I was the only one like this.

Debi, you will be a fantastic teacher, since you already are to us. icon_lol.gif Your students will be very blessed to have you.

I'm glad you will be staying here with us. Keep us updated on your new adventures!

I have to say that I was surprised to read that was from you, but I need to thank you for posting that. I had to close up my in home bakery last month for multiple reasons, but the main was that my hand was giving me all kinds of problems and I was facing surgery if I didn't quit using it. I felt like I was the only one going through this and I was so disappointed that I had to close up shop. I haven't even told any of my friends yet because I was embarassed. Knowing that someone else is going through the same thing and that you have such a positive attitude about it really made a difference for me. Thank youicon_smile.gif

I understand exactly what you mean .... which is why I stipulated "no condolences, please" because most people think it's a sad thing. On the one hand, I'm sorry to close up shop and on the other hand, just keep remembering that you were one of a few that chose to take the big leap, financially and emotionally, to start your business. You battled the daily obstacles we all encounter everyday in running a business. You had the courage and the "1-2-3 GO!" gumption to even TRY. Even if you were in business only one week, that's one week longer at working and living your dream than most people get in their whole lifetime.

My absolutely #1 favorite quote:
Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did NOT do that is inconsolable.  ---Sydney J. Harris

And other favorites:

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." -----Eleanor Roosevelt

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do ... Explore. Dream. Discover." ----Mark Twain

Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to the end, requires some of the same courage which a soldier needs." ----Ralph Waldo Emerson

Those who say it cant be done, should stop interrupting those of us who are doing it.

Debi,
Speaking as a retired teacher who had no idea I even liked decorating cakes until after I retired, and now believe that I physically can not open a cake shop even though I'd love to... Enjoy each step of the way and do what you love. I believe we only go around once and we have to make it count.
Good Luck in everything you choose to do.
