I've been asked a lot lately about the snowflakes I used to have posted, and the tutorial for the font download and whatnot, so here it is.
Go to http://www.p22.com/free/snow.html and follow directions for the font download. Unzip your files, and drag and paste to your font folder in settings from your computer's start menu.
Go to Word, and drop down the font and start typing. Figure out which ones you like best, and blow them up, shrink them down, whatever you want until you get the right size. Remember, capitalizing adds different flake styles.
Print out, cut out, lay under a sheet of parchment and go to town on them with your RI and different size tips. Sprinkle them with disco dust, luster dust, prism flakes, whatever you like before they dry.
If you have made your RI the right consistency, and have allowed them to dry properly, they shuold not stick to your parchment. They almost float on top of the paper once they are dry, and will slide right off.
This pic shows some of the styles, but certainly not all. Have fun!
You're welcome!. I think, if I remember correctly, hitting the number keys brings up new styles too. I might be wrong. This is super easy though and all the different styles are great.
I've never used disco dust before. Do you have any recommendations on which kind to get? Thanks so much for the tutorial.
Hey Jamie...
thanks so much! I had just posted the other night about how to do snowflakes.. yours look like exactly what i'm lookin for! Thanks a lot, it's appreciated
I too am having trouble. I am running Vista. Downloaded and extracted files. When I try to copy for Fonts, it says it is not a valid file. Any ideas?
Thanks! What a cool tool!
No lcubed, I have no idea. So, do you have both windows open simultaneously? The window with all of your fonts, and the window with your new font? And when you drag it over, it doesn't work? Yeah, stumped.
Jamie I have a winzip program that unzips stuff and this can't be unzipped and saved into a location I can open my fonts program and pop it in there. I have to save it in a specific folder and I am stumped. I can see where it needs to go but when I try to go from the other end and save it there it won't accept it. IDK
WOW! Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Reading the instructions sounds daunting - hopefully my computer can handle it.
Go to where you save the file. Click open and then select the PSS file and open it. It opens to show you the file. On the right hand side there is properties and click that. On the bottom of the screen there is and unblock. Click that and save you can now load them into your font file. Vista is blocking the file from being loaded. HTH
Oh I'm glad you got it...Sad, you got it now? I'm not very adept at troubleshooting. Just finding stuff on Google...that's about it.
nope and I know what the issue is. When my pc crashed last year I had a friend restore it all and he is a teckie geek and said hey i took off the stuff you don't really need that slows things down... yeah I know just the stuff! the idiot proff click this to do that wizard! My pc was a pc for dummies and he made it all smart and I don't know what I am doing in here...LOL
Once you print out the snowflake template, you place it under parchment paper and use royal icing to trace over it. Then let the royal icing dry and you can place the snowflake on your cake..
Ah....well, really if you don't have access to the font, any snowflake template will work. It's basic piping with royal icing on top of parchment paper that has a picture of something underneath that you are "tracing"....let it dry...and you have a nice royal icing shape.
