Which Are The Best Cake Decorating Videos To Buy?
Decorating By aizuodangao Updated 10 Jan 2010 , 10:02pm by bobwonderbuns
Hi,
I am in Sydney, Australia. I am hping to get a job as a cake decorator one day. I have been decorating my son's b'day cakes for 8 years now. (mostly fondant).
As I can't really afford to attend cake decorating classes, could anyone recommend any DVDs which I could order online which have detail techniques on how to decorate all types of cakes (buttercream, how to pipe, how to cover all types of shape cakes, how to do flowers, etc etc). I'd love to learn as many skills as I can.
I have just received an email about Sharon Zambito's DVDs.
http://sugaredproductions.com/ I had a look at the demos on that website and look awesome.
IS this the best DVDs to buy? OR can someone recommend others? I am saving up to buy one set so I have to choose very carerfully.
Please kindly provide the name of decorator, name of DVD and/or the web address as well.
Thank you in advance!!
Hi, Sharon Zambito's DVD's are the best.
For the flowers, it has to be Michelle Foster or Nicholas Lodge. Tonedna has got few videos on YouTube and one DVD on making a Stargazer lilly.
Here is a link to Michelle Foster's site,

And this is Nicholas Lodge's site,

HTH.
i guess it would depend on what you are wanting to learn-there are so many tutorials out there for just about everything-i completely agree that edna's tutorials are fantastic (my roses turn out SO much better, more realistic) and cake central is a great stepping stone as well. hope that helps (and saves you money too lol)
I second anything by Sharon Zambito. I've paid hundreds of dollars for some classes, but still probably learned more with Sharon's DVDs. She's the best!
oh great. thnaks so much everyone. Looks like Sharon Zambito's DVDs are the right ones to buy
ditto on sharon zambito's dvds!
And another ditto here!

I'll also say Sharon's Dvds are the best.
Michelle Foster is amazing. I love the way she makes roses seem so easy. I have made them using her method and everyone thinks they look like real flowers. Very inexpensive and worth way more.....worht the investment.

Thank you for the wonderful compliment! I'm very glad my techniques works for you. I think the roses are easier without cutters and look nicer, especially for show flowers.
Thanks again,
Michele
I have all sharon's dvds and all Jennifer's Dontz dvds and I recommend you to buy all of them from Jennifer Dontz and the Topsy Turvy and Boxes and Bows from Sharon Z. Here's the site for Jennifer D. Sugardelites.com I highly recommend jennifer's dvds she is amazing.
I totally agree with misabel99. Jennifer Dontz' DvD's are fantastic and easy to follow. Her customer service is 5 star and she is a wonderful person who always has time for answering questions.

I agree both Sharon and Jennifer has great dvd's I have them all, and Yes Jen and Sharon are wonderful at answering questions, but I order from Jen more she has more things on her site that one needs, and offers flat rate shipping for $9.85, depending on the weight, if it is less she will refund you the difference, and usually ships the next day of your order. She also has great recipies for her semi homemade fondant, and her pearl clay is superb, you have to order the fondant and merckens chocolate, from her though, at least for the first time, then you can try others, but I like hers the best. Good Luck with your Decision.
Also Edna has two great gumpaste flower dvd's for sale www.designmeacake.com
And check my signature for free tutorials
I'd recommend for general decorating anything by Sharon Zambito and Jennifer Dontz. For gumpaste flowers Nick Lodge, Michelle Foster and Scott Woolley. Tonedna has two videos out which I haven't seen but I have seen her YouTube videos so I would recommend them anyway. For figure modeling anything by Lorraine MacKay and the Petal Crafts videos are good but rather limited. The Yummy Arts people have tons of videos available both on DVD and online teaching all kinds of techniques. I have quite a few of them and the techniques are good but the production quality is lacking. For chocolate work Autumn Carpenter has a great chocolate DVD out using chocolate transfer sheets. It all depends on what you want to learn. You can also go online to GSA and look at the videos they offer. Hope that gives you a start anyway!
