Hello Canadians,
I'm not sure if this post will be allowed (so sorry Jackie if it breaks any rules), but I wanted to get an idea from some of the cakers in Canada if they require a supplier for cake boxes, cupcake boxes, insert, etc... I have been researching for months to find a supplier in Canada that carries these items and have been extremely unsuccessful. I am wondering if any Canadians have a good supplier for these items or if, like me, you wish you could find one! I have been forced to order from a (wonderful) supplier in the US and the shipping, taxes, customs brokerage, and bonding fees are astronomical on top of the cost of the product. What are your thoughts? Do you have the need for these items? Wish you could order them in small quantities, without big shipping costs? Thanks for your input!!

WOW! you have to pay for customs brokerage, and bonding fees? Whatever that means but sounds pricey & a ripoff to me.

I sure would like to find a supplier with a good selection in Canada! I know there is a supplier in Pickering that offers a small selection but not able to buy in bulk which would save money in the long run. If you come across one pls. let me know.

LOL! You're right, but unfortunately it goes to the government - nothing to do with the company who's selling it. They've been amazing and the selection is UNREAL! But for an order that would have cost me about $60 USD, it's now costing me about $115 USD. Oh well, c'est la vie!

I'll certainly keep looking, if you know the name of the pickering company, would you let me know? I found a lady from pickering on ebay selling cupcake boxes, but they were only for single cupcakes and she had a very limited supply. Once I finished my order, I thought maybe I need to find out if there is a need for me to import these?????

I don't do big volume (cakes) but what I do need I get from Bulk Barn.

As for cupcake boxes, perhaps anyone who is interested and lives close to you could PM you and you could arrange for a bulk shipment, thereby saving a double duty/customs/money grab.

http://www.mccalls.ca/, in Etobicoke has boxes and other supplies at reasonable prices. If you have a business license, there's no membership fee. Otherwise, it's $25 a year, well spent. They have a retail outlet and a warehouse. The warehouse is where you want to go.

http://www.gtfrenchpaper.com/ , in Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener and Niagara Falls sell boxes and boards at a good price. I've never ordered online from either place, but you can do that, too. I was able to pick up the bubble tea straws here, at a great price! This one is available to the public, at no extra charge.

If anyone is up in Eastern Ontario, Snelling Paper is the place to go. Their website is not very good, but it will at least give you contact info.

Flour Confections definitely has bulk and wholesale pricing on many items, including boxes and inserts. They show the bulk pricing on the item page on the website.

I'm local, so I don't have the shipping expense as I can pick up at the store. But I agree, that's a lot of money. If you get a Venture Card from Canada Post, maybe you can see if you can save on shipping with them, and make the arrangement where you don't have the store do the shipping. Although I imagine they'd have to have some sort of corporate rate for shipping.

However, someone posted about WR Display (used to be Dunwoody Booth but they were bought up) and they have boxes and inserts. I ordered from them and from Uline before Christmas for cookie boxes and they are both reasonably priced, and very good customer service. And with WR Booth, they have a location in Calgary, so shipping to your location should be much more reasonable.

If you're in Alberta, you should be looking to http://www.cakemischief.com/ . They're located in Beaumont which is a suburb of Edmonton. I've ordered from them and had great service. Also, you might try PM Hobbycraft in Calgary. I've never ordered from them, but I have shopped at their storefront and had DH pick stuff up for me on his way thru Calgary (benefit of being married to a truck driver, he can save me the delivery charges, all I have to do is keep him supplied with cake when he's home). PM's website is http://www.pmhobbycraft.ca/store/ . Then there's Golda's in Mississauga, ON http://www.goldaskitchen.com/index.ihtml . They seem to have everything which is a good thing cuz here in Quebec options appear to be slim to none if you want to order online. HTH

I am about to place an order for some large boxes from AnyBoxToday.com, which is located in Newmarket, just north of Toronto. They don't sell little cake boxes or cupcake inserts, just cardboard boxes. I constantly find myself trying to figure out how to cover a 3 or 4 tier cake from the elements/dust/whatever and the Bulk Barn just doesn't cut it!! You can build your box online (they have ones that fold up the front, so you don't need to drop the cake down into the bottom of a box, then try to lift it out or cut the sides). Prices are reasonable and pick-up is free. Check them out here.
