hi, i am trying to make a cake of two gift boxed but with one leaning to the side. (i have seen many cakes with the lid leaning off of it to the side but none with a whole cake) hopefully i described it good enough.
The lid leaning to the side is generally made by decorating styrofoam, the entire box would need to be styrofoam as well.
The Tiffany Box cake in my pix has a gumpaste lid that could easily be leaned against the cake. I got the instructions from Sugarshack's Boxes and Bows DVD.
i have a couple of gift box cakes with slanted lids, i make them with styro cover a section of styro with fondant and leave to dry this is your lid, to get the angle cut another wedge of styro to act as a wedge between the cake and the lid, hot glue gun a cake cardboard to the base of the wedge and place dowel suupports int he base cake, 'glue' the wedge in place with RI, if you are doind more than one tier, pre drill a hole in the cake card so that you can use a central dowel for internal support.
'glue' the lid on to the wedge with ri, fill in the gaps with either flowers or gumpaste 'tissue' or whatever you want!!
