I was hired to do a cupcake birthday party and i can figure out everything BUT...how do i have each child make their own batter?

its not like i can take eggs and divide it among each child. any suggestions? any ideas? Box mix, scratch?
HELP!!! they really want the kids to actually make the batter just like a very expensive place here in town does.

I have seen places that do the parties as well. They gave every attendee a box mix like for the easy bake ovens that just add water. The same with the icing. They each got to keep this little wire whip and bowl. I saw the same set at dollar tree.

A regular box mix without the eggs wouldn't taste or bake right.

They want each child to make their own bowl of batter instead of all the kids working together to make one batch? That's kind of odd to me and very difficult to do w/o using the Easy Bake oven type packets.

I'm going to use box mix as an example here as it would be easier in this situation.

A typical box mix (DH, BC, Pilsbury) makes 24 cupcakes. Weigh the mix and divide into 24 portions by weight (put each portion into a baggie).

Pre-mix the water, oil, and eggs. Weigh that and divide into 24 portions by weight (put each portion into a baggie).

Each kid gets 2 baggies, one of dry mix and one of liquids. All they have to do is mix the 2 together and pour into a single cupcake liner.

If there are fewer kids, say 12 instead of 24, and they are each doing 2 cupcakes, same procedure, just divide everything up into 12 portions instead of 24 and the kids divide their mixed batter between 2 liners.

HTH!

awesome! they were going to do vanilla and chocolate so i could do the vanilla for 12 kids, fill a cupcake linner and then they could just add a little cocoa powder to the remaining batter to make chocolate. i think ill give that a trial run and see what happens! i open to any suggestions, ideas, thought, whatever!

Do they want them to make the icing, too? (Hope not, that would be a mess!)

You might want to see if you can find pasteurized eggs...Unless those kids listen better than mine, you know some of that cake batter is going to find its way to little mouths and some parents might be really against their kids eating raw egg.

I did a cupcake decorating party for my 10-year old's birthday. They didn't bake, though, just decorated.

I made the cupcakes and put white frosting on all of them. I filled pastry bags with different colors of BC. Each girl got a zip-lock bag with some basic tips in them. I made a laminated "practice" sheet for each girl (I used the printouts on the Wilton site for the girl scout badge). I taught them each how to do some basics....stars, swirl flowers, dots, letters. Then they each decorated 4 cupcakes and got to put them in a cupcake box to take home.

Earlier in the party, each girl got to decorate an apron with fabric markers. I had put an iron-on transfer on each apron with their name and some flowers, and then they went to town with the markers. They wore the aprons while they decorated, and then took them home.

The party was a huge hite. I'm not sure how I would have handled baking the actual cupcakes, icing them, and then decorating. I figured they'd have more fun decorating.

Good luck and enjoy icon_smile.gif

My thoughts exactly. It would just be so much nicer decorating and having fun with that than the hot oven and eggs and all.

I was wondering what I would charge for a cupcake kids party?
Would you charge one fee or per child.
I would like to do this as a business so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Judy

Thanks, cupcakemommy!
I guess what I really wanted to know was what would I charge if I made the cupcakes and icing and took everything with me and let the kids decorate their own cupcakes? Would I then charge per child or what?
Thanks,Judy

I don't do cupcakes/cake partys but sounds like a lot of work I'm thinking $25-30 per kid at least.

just wanted to add that I buy JIFFY brand cake mixes (like you get the corn muffins) well, they have white and chocolate and yellow I believe and it makes just about 6 cupcakes worth of batter and all you do is add water! i bought my neice a TON of them to go with her easy bake oven (since they're WAY cheaper than the easy bake cake mixes)........certainly you could divide up each box into a plastic cup and give each kid a popsicle stick to stir?

I was thinking about those but the ones at my grocery store take milk and an egg.
I would like the just add water ones for my boys, they love the muffins that only take milk cuz' they get to make them.
